Top Ten Tuesday #157

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all been having a good week, I am in my last week of exam torture, on Friday, it will all be over and it cannot come soon enough. I am so looking forward to being able to just relax and read!

Anyway, as it’s Tuesday, I am taking a break from exam hell, and joining up with Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl, for another Top Ten Tuesday. This week, we’re talking Books We Would Slay A Lion To Get Early. Now I don’t think I’d really be up to lion slaying, but if the book gods were to look kindly upon me and deliver these releases early, I’d be mighty appreciative. I’m doing this in release date order, not order of excitement!:

  1. Legendary-Stephanie Garber-Out 29th May

I know it’s only a few weeks away, but I really wish that I could get this book early! I have preordered the signed copy from Waterstones, but I also requested it from Netgalley, so hopefully I might get my wish and get to read it before the release date. Caraval was one of my favourite reads of last year (and I can’t actually believe that it was last year, it feels like so much longer ago), so I look forward to reading the sequel either when it is released, or beforehand if my Netgalley request is granted.

2. Ace of Shades-Amanda Foody- Out 17th May

I was part of the street team for this book’s US release, and so was doing promo for it all through March, but I have actually yet to read it because it hasn’t been released in the UK yet! I have it on preorder, but have also requested it on Netgalley, so either way, I will be reading it very soon.

3. Midnight (Skulduggery Pleasant #11)-Derek Landy-Out 31st May

AHHHHH! MORE SKULDUGGERY! I have been addicted to this series since I was 12 years old (THAT WAS ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO, HOW?), so naturally I am very impatiently awaiting the release of the new instalment in this latest phase of the series. I was a little underwhelmed by the first book, but I am sure that it is building up to something amazing.

4. Toil and Trouble: 15 Tales of Women and Witchcraft-Anthology edited by Tess Sharpe-Out 25th August

I absolutely love witches, so this anthology of tales of witches is definitely right up my alley! I haven’t actually read anything by any of the authors who are contributing to this anthology, but I’m hoping that my love of the subject matter will overcome the fact that I am a newbie to all of them and hopefully help me discover some new faves!

5. City of Ghosts-Victoria Schwab-Out 31st August

I’ve never read anything by Victoria Schwab that was middle grade, because I think her middle grade books had gone out of print in the UK by the time I discovered her books, but I am super excited for this one. For one thing, it’s set in Scotland, which is where I currently live, Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities and I think that ghost stories and Edinburgh are definitely a recipe for success. Plus this is Victoria Schwab, I’m sure she won’t disappoint!

6. Not Even Bones-Rebecca Schaeffer-Out 4th September

A girl who takes apart supernatural beings and sells their body parts on the Internet? Who then ends up being the next victim for her mother’s “business”? Yup this book sounds just dark and creepy enough to be incredibly enjoyable and I need it RIGHT NOW.

7. For A Muse of Fire-Heidi Heilig-Out 25th September

This sound AH-MAZING. Souls of the dead bound to shadow puppets? A main character with bipolar disorder? A mix of Asian and Colonial French cultures? Everything about this book makes me want to read it, I can’t wait for September!

8.Β  A Spark of Light-Jodi Picoult-Out 2nd October

I’m super excited for the latest Jodi Picoult book, because it’s tackling abortion, which is something that I’ve wanted to see her do for a long time. It feels like a very timely novel with everything that’s been going on in the world recently, and I’m sure Jodi Picoult will handle the topic with all the care and grace that she usually does.

9. Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass #7)-Sarah J Maas-Out 23rd October

The above level of incoherence? Yup, that’s going to be me after finishing the last instalment in Aelin’s journey.

10. Firestarter (Timekeeper #3)-Tara Sim-Out January 2019

Okay so this doesn’t come out till 2019 but I would definitely slay a lion to attempt to get this one early. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THAT CLIFFHANGER. Tara Sim is an evil genuis and I will read anything she writes, no matter how painful (I LIE PLEASE DON’T HURT ME AGAIN TARA. I CAN’T TAKE IT).

So there we go, the upcoming releases that I would love the book gods to grant me, if they are feeling kind, since I really don’t want to be doing any lion slaying! What books would you love to get early? Do we share any? Let me know in the comments.

Next week’s topic is Books With My Favourite Colour In The Cover (or title). I don’t really know many books that have purple either in the cover or the title, but I’ll give it a go! I will be playing catch-up with reviews and stuff over the next few weeks, so please bear with me as I transfer into summer mode!

I would love to read Legendary, too. Actually, I want to listen to it. I did this with the first book and it was so fun! I hope you get to read it soon.

I really need to read Caraval! I haven’t yet and I keep hearing a lot of interesting things. And then when I’m done the 2nd one will be out, so there’ll be no waiting lol

  6. Destiny @ Howling Libraries 02/05/2018 / 5:57 am

Such a good list! Let’s see… I didn’t LOVE Caraval (I think I gave it 2.5-3 stars?), but I’m honestly really excited for Legendary. I won a pre-order giveaway for it on Twitter so now I’m just waiting for it to hurry up and release! I’m also really excited for Toil & Trouble, which I have an ARC of that I think I’ll try to start reading some time this month. And Kingdom of Ashes should be exciting – I was a late bloomer to that series but I’m reading 1 a month leading up to October to catch up in time to enjoy it with everyone else when it releases!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/05/2018 / 3:42 pm

Oh that’s interesting! I hope you enjoy Legendary more than you did Caraval. Ooh you have an ARC of Toil and Trouble? Lucky! I hope you enjoy it. Wow, that is quite the commitment, I hope you manage to catch up in time πŸ™‚

I really need to read Caraval! I love the book cover for Legendary so much. I am hoping that I love Caraval, so I can get Legendary haha. Toil and Trouble sounds really good. I love witchy books and stories. I should have added City of Ghosts to my list as well. It sounds great!

  15. sarabara081 02/05/2018 / 5:44 pm

Legendary! I requested Legendary as soon as it went up on Netgalley and was denied. *CRIES* I’ve been trying to keep myself occupied with many other books as I wait for my pre-order to arrive!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/05/2018 / 3:16 pm

Aww shame! I have requested it, but I’ve got on pre-order anyway, so I’ll be reading it either way. That sounds like a good plan!

  16. Leslie 02/05/2018 / 9:58 pm

Good luck with exams!! Great pics! I also don’t know many books with the color purple! It’s also my favorite color, so I’ll have to start looking!

    Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

I still haven’t read Caraval, glad to see you recommend it!

  20. Beth (Reading Every Night) 03/05/2018 / 5:10 am

Great picks for this week. Legendary is one of my most anticipated releases of this year, and oh I had no idea Heidi Heilig had another book being released. Definitely need to check that out! πŸ™‚

  21. ChrissiReads 03/05/2018 / 6:01 am

A Spark Of Light sounds really good. I didn’t know about it, so thanks for the heads up!

  22. Susan Jensen 03/05/2018 / 2:25 pm

I love Picoult’s book. I especially love that she helps me see hot-button issues from all sides, which helps me consider other views more than I would have otherwise. I have strong feelings about abortion, so we’ll see how I do with this one. Ha ha.

Thanks for coming by my TTT earlier!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/05/2018 / 3:36 pm

Me too! I’m very strongly pro-choice, so it will be interesting to see how this one deals with the other side of the debate. No problem!

  23. HΓ’f 03/05/2018 / 7:26 pm

I didn’t realise Ace of Shades isn’t out til the 17th here! I’m so excited for Legendary!

  24. whimsywriter3 03/05/2018 / 7:51 pm

I haven’t even heard of or A Muse of Fire, but it sounds awesome! I’m adding it to my TBR list right now.

    • iloveheartlandx 05/05/2018 / 10:50 am

Yay! Glad to have helped you find something new πŸ™‚

  25. Elena K 04/05/2018 / 6:03 am

I haven’t come across A Muze of Fire but sounds really interesting! *needs to add to tbr* And Kingdom of Ash, great choice and I can totally relate to what you said!! I need to know the end but also want it to never end haha.

    • iloveheartlandx 05/05/2018 / 10:46 am

Glad to have helped you find something new to read! Yes, it’s a very strange place to be in!

  26. Nicole Moy 04/05/2018 / 7:48 pm

Yes to Legendary! I would have added it to my TTT but I was fortunate enough to be approved for an e-ARC.

  27. Lee @ Rally the Readers 05/05/2018 / 10:09 pm

AHHH- Kingdom of Ash! I want to read it so badly, but at the same time I’m dreading it, lol, because it’s probably going to break my heart, plus it’s the end of the series.

    • iloveheartlandx 06/05/2018 / 1:25 pm

  28. Just Another Girl and her Books 06/05/2018 / 3:24 am

Legendary and Toil and Trouble almost made it into my Netgalley Request Roulette for TTT this week (but I haven’t read Caraval yet, so I figured I shouldn’t request that one at all and I don’t remember why I ended up passing on Toil and Trouble).

Have a great week. – Katie

    • iloveheartlandx 06/05/2018 / 1:25 pm

Thanks Katie! I hope you enjoy both books when you do read them πŸ™‚

  29. Lois 07/05/2018 / 2:11 pm

Anything by Victoria Schwab is an automatic add to the tbr list haha.

  30. lindseyhabets 07/05/2018 / 5:59 pm

Your feelings on Kindom of Ash are completely relatable! Also looking forward to CIty of Ghosts πŸ™‚

  31. Rissi 08/05/2018 / 3:46 am

“Toil and Trouble” does look like fun! I think I saw that one on Amazon a while back, but it’s one of those books I forget about in the pursuit of other new discoveries. #BookWormProblems

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland last week!

    • iloveheartlandx 08/05/2018 / 11:08 am

Ha ha totally understandable problem. No worries πŸ™‚

  32. Helia Reads 13/06/2018 / 1:54 pm
