Top Ten Tuesday #57

Hey everyone! I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday for you all this week, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s prompt is Top Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim. This topic’s a bit of a difficult one, considering that since I started book blogging, a lot of the books that I pick up are based off other blogger’s recommendations! Still, it’s a fun topic, so I’ll try my best to think up ten books that fit!

1. Unwind-Neal Shusterman-This is one of my favourite books (and series) now, so it’s hard to imagine that it was one that I hadn’t even heard of before I bought the first book, but it was. I came across this whilst doing an Amazon search, just looking for new things to read and it came up under my “Recommended For You” list. I thought the synopsis sounded interesting, so I bought a copy. I’m so glad I did because words cannot explain my love for this series!
2. She Is Not Invisible-Marcus Sedgwick-I haven’t actually read this yet, but I picked it up in a book shop a few months ago, initially attracted by the eye catching cover and then I read the synopsis and it sounded interesting so I bought it. Hopefully I’ll like it!
3. Skulduggery Pleasant Series-Derek Landy-I picked the first book in this series up in the library when I was in Year 7 because we had library sessions in our English class where we could just read. The idea of a skeleton detective completely pulled me in and now, eight years later, it’s one of my favourite series and I’m reading the first book in Derek Landy’s new series!
4. Thirteen Reasons Why-Jay Asher-I hadn’t heard anything about this before I picked it up, I was just wandering around Waterstones, looking for something new to read and I picked this up. I thought it sounded like a really unique book and so I bought it, and I’m glad I did because it’s now one of my favourites!
5. Pure-Julianna Baggott-I picked this one up because of the eye catching cover, I’ll admit it, but the synopsis sounded just interesting enough that I wanted to give it a shot. I’m glad I did because I really enjoyed both this book and it’s sequels.
6. Heist Society-Ally Carter-I hadn’t read Ally Carter’s previous series before I picked up the first book in her Heist Society series, as with most of the books on this list, I was in Waterstones looking for something new to read, I picked this up, it caught my interest and I ended up really enjoying it (and the subsequent sequels that she released). Now she just need to release a fourth one already!
7. Death Cloud-Andrew Lane-The first book in the Young Sherlock Holmes series. This one was again the result of a trip to Waterstones where I didn’t really go in looking for anything, but I came across this book and loved the idea of reading about a Young Sherlock Holmes, so I bought this book, loved it and subsequently devoured the rest of the published books at that time, and have carried on reading the new ones as they were published. I just bought the eighth book in the series this weekend actually!
8. HIVE-Mark Walden-Another result of my aimless wanderings around Waterstones! I picked this up and it kind of sounded like a cross between Artemis Fowl and Harry Potter, two series that I really loved, so I picked it up, loved it and then completely devoured the series. I hope the ninth book doesn’t take too long to publish!
9. Dangerous Girls-Abigail Haas-I can’t believe (given the ending of this book) that I had heard nothing about it before I found it on yet another one of my trips to Waterstones. It completely blew my mind!
10. The One Dollar Horse-Lauren St John-I was looking for some new stuff to read and I happened to come across this in Waterstones. I hadn’t read anything horsey in a while and this sounded just perfect. I really enjoyed it (and the subsequent sequels!).
11. Throne of Glass-Sarah J Maas-I know, it sounds crazy that I hadn’t heard anything about this series when I first picked it up, two years after it was published, but I wasn’t blogging yet, so the hype train hadn’t got to me and I thought it sounded interesting so I picked it up. I may not have loved the first book, but the second book sealed my love of this series!
12. Cross My Heart-Carmen Reid-I had heard nothing about this book when I came across it in Waterstones a few years ago, but the synopsis sounded so great, I love WWII books and I knew next to nothing about the Belgian Resistance, so this book seemed perfect. I’m glad to say, I enjoyed it just as much as I thought I would, if not more!
13. Between Shades of Grey-Ruta Sepetys-Another one of my trips to Waterstones where I didn’t have a clear plan of what I was going to buy, resulted in me buying this book. As you may have worked out by now, I love WWII fiction and barely any of it focuses on Stalin and the Eastern European part of the war, so I was so happy when I found this. I was glad that I loved it as much as I thought I would.
14. The Scorpio Races-Maggie Stiefvater-I randomly picked this one up when I was wandering around Waterstones (this post makes it seem like that’s all I do, I swear I do sometimes go there with a plan of what to buy!) and it sounded good so I decided to buy it. Whilst I didn’t love it, reading this book lead to me picking up The Raven Boys a few years later and I love that series, so I’m definitely glad I read this book, if it meant I found those ones!

I know I went over but it turns out I have more books that I picked up on a whim than I originally thought! What books did you just pick up on a whim? Any of them become favourites?
