Top Ten Tuesday #42

image

Hey everyone! I have another Top Ten Tuesday for you all this week, thanks to the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s theme has to do with the past or the future but basically as long as your topic is to do with one of those two themes, you can choose whatever you want as a topic. I’m not going to lie, I’ve been kind of stumped for this one, so I looked at other people’s posts to try and get some ideas and the topic I’ve chosen to do this week is Top Ten Futuristic Books I’m Looking Forward To Reading. I did think about doing my favourite futuristic books, since I read a lot of dystopia which is always in a futuristic setting, but since I have a lot of dystopia on my TBR which I’m looking forward to reading, I figured it would make a good list for this week! So here we go, the top ten futuristic books I’m looking forward to reading:

  1. The Darkest Minds-Alexandra Bracken-Ugh! This book has been on my TBR for so damn long and I still really want to read it, I just haven’t got around to it yet. I will read it eventually, I promise!
  2. The Young Elites-Marie Lu-I’ve heard some really good things about this one and it sounds amazing, so I’m really looking forward to reading it. I have this one on my shelf already, it’s just a case of getting the time to read it.
  3. The Fever Code-James Dashner-I have been promised answers! Answers about how the maze came about, answers to all my burning questions in this book, so you’d better bloody well deliver Dashner! I will not accept another Kill Order. I want a proper prequel this time!
  4. Unbound-Neal Shusterman-I am dying to dive back into the world of Unwind! I have missed it since finishing Undivided, so I am definitely looking forward to reading this book of short stories set in the Unwind universe.
  5. Wither-Lauren DeStefano-I’ve read some less than favourable reviews for this, but the premise utterly hooked me, so I’m willing to give it a try.
  6. The Jewel-Amy Ewing-The idea behind this one is kind of weird, rich women aren’t able to have kids, so use teenage girls with special powers as their surrogates, but ti also sounds kind of cool, so I’m quite looking forward to trying it.
  7. Only Ever Yours-Louise O’Neill-This one sounds so cool! I’ve heard such good things about it and it’s supposedly a very feminist novel, which obviously appeals to me, so I’m excited to read it.
  8. The Knife of Never Letting Go-Patrick Ness-I’ve had so many people telling me that I need to read a Patrick Ness book and I’ve had this one on my shelf for a while now, so I’m excited to read it and see what the big deal is with Patrick Ness!
  9. Cinder-Marissa Meyer-The Lunar Chronicles seems to appear on everyone’s TTT posts and there seems to be a lot of love for this series, so I am hoping to get to this one eventually and see what all the fuss is about.
  10. The Book of Ivy-Amy Engel-This one sounds really interesting and with a lot of political intrigue, so I’m really excited to read it.
  11. Dreamstrider-Lindsay Smith-The premise of this is so intriguing, people who can move around in other people’s dreams, so I’m really excited to read it and see if it’s as good as it sounds.
  12. Paper and Fire-Rachel Caine-The second book in the Great Library series, I loved the first one so much, so I’m really excited to see where the series goes from there.

That’s all I have for this week (yes I know I went over ten but it wasn’t by much!). What did everyone else choose for their past/future based topic this week? Any futuristic books that you could recommend to me? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s topic is a Valentines’ Day based freebie, so once again, you’ll have to wait and see what I come up with. In the meantime though, I will definitely have more posts up for you guys this week, so make sure you check those out!

Great list! I haven’t read Unwind yet, but it was picked for my IRL book club for March so I can’t wait to read it. 🙂

Such a great list! I’m dying to read The Fever Code, too, I WANT TO KNOW. And Only Ever Yours, too, that book sounds so, so good! 🙂

  7. Anette @ Anette Reads 02/02/2016 / 8:55 pm

I haven’t read Unwind but I was thinking of ordering it, maybe I will today! You should definitely read some Patrick Ness 😀

    • iloveheartlandx 02/02/2016 / 8:57 pm

Oh it’s such a great book, you definitely should! I should get to The Knife of Never Letting Go this year as it’s on my list of books I want to read for the #RockMyTBR Challenge!

  8. Leona 02/02/2016 / 8:56 pm

I bought both Young Elites and Cinder (I’m not into futuristic or scifi but those books sounded so awesome I will read them) great list, tho!

  9. Brandy 02/02/2016 / 9:31 pm

I’m not really into futuristic books (which is why I focused historical today), but I did enjoy Cinder.

    • iloveheartlandx 02/02/2016 / 9:34 pm

I like both, but I have more futuristic books on my TBR, which is why I chose to focus on that today. Really? That’s good to hear!

  10. Carrie 02/02/2016 / 9:37 pm

I’m determined to read The Lunar Chronicles this year! My TTT

    • iloveheartlandx 02/02/2016 / 9:39 pm

I don’t think I’ll manage it this year, I have so many books to read already, but next year for sure!

  11. Jessica @ a GREAT read 02/02/2016 / 9:42 pm

Ooh nice! I enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles as well! Great picks!

  12. Nisha Rao 02/02/2016 / 10:15 pm

  13. anovelglimpse 02/02/2016 / 10:39 pm

I really want to read The Knife of Never Letting Go. I just read A Monster Calls and I loved it. Great choices!

  14. Beth (Reading Every Night) 02/02/2016 / 10:59 pm

I loved The Darkest Minds series, and Cinder as well, so I would highly recommend both those series 🙂 I feel like your TTT this week could literally be a copy of my to-read list. I really want to get around to The Knife of Never Letting Go soon, as well as The Fever Code and The Young Elites (I’ve heard some good things about that book, and the Legend series as well). Also I am so excited for the release of Paper and Fire, especially after the way the first book ended, I need to know what happens next.

    • iloveheartlandx 02/02/2016 / 11:48 pm

That’s great to hear! Oh really? Great minds think alike! I really want to get to The Knife of Never Letting Go this year, I’ve had it a while. Also really looking forward to The Fever Code and The Young Elites. Oh I know! I am so excited for Paper and Fire after reading Ink and Bone, I need to know what happens next!

  15. Alexis 02/02/2016 / 11:26 pm

I hadn’t planned to read Darkest Minds until I read Passenger. Now I’m dying to get my hands on it. I also have the Lunar Chronicles on my tbr list… I keep putting it off despite all the love. Hopefully I’ll get to it sometime this year!

    • iloveheartlandx 02/02/2016 / 11:46 pm

I haven’t read either! I think I’ll do it the opposite way to you and read Darkest Minds first, then if I like it read Passenger, just because Darkest Minds appeals to me more. Yeah, The Lunar Chronicles has been on my TBR for ages, I just haven’t got around to it yet. I don’t think I’ll get to it this year, but maybe next year!

  16. Amy S. 03/02/2016 / 12:10 am

I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles! Hope you do too! I don’t think The Young Elites is really futuristic… it’s more fantasy, but I enjoyed it!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:34 pm

Good to hear! I hope so too! Okay well maybe it doesn’t entirely fit, but it’s still something I want to try anyway!

  17. Jen @ BookLoversAlliance 03/02/2016 / 12:20 am

I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles either! I’m hoping to get to it sometime soon(ish)…if my TBR allows it 🙂 . At this point I feel like my expectations for it are so high from all the hype. Hopefully it won’t disappoint!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:33 pm

Glad to know I’m not the only one! I probably won’t get to it this year as I have so many other books to read! Yeah me too, so I’m slightly nervous to read it. Hopefully it won’t!

  18. Kate @ Mom's Radius 03/02/2016 / 1:31 am

Good spin on this week’s topic. You have to read The Lunar Chronicles. They are so good! I need to read The Young Elites this year. Marie Lu is on my new author challenge, so I’ll probably end up picking that series.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:31 pm

Thanks! I will definitely try to get to it at some point. Hope we both love The Young Elites!

  19. Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense 03/02/2016 / 2:48 am

I’ve really enjoyed the Young Elites. The second book is really good, so if you don’t like the first, you ought to give the second a go. Great list!

  20. Emily Alfano 03/02/2016 / 3:26 am

I haven’t had the chance to read The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken yet but i want to! especially because she’s going to be at BookCon in a few months and I’m going!
    Great post this week!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:28 pm

Me either! It’s been on my TBR for ages, so I definitely want to read it as soon as possible. Ooh lucky! Hope you have a great time! Thanks!

  21. espressodream 03/02/2016 / 5:36 am

I’m not really a dystopian reader…but once in awhile a really good one would make me change my mind. My friends has been recommending Marie Lu’s Young Elites to me….which I am interested in checking out 🙂 Good list!!!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:24 pm

Oh I love dystopia, aside from fantasy, it’s my main genre! Yeah Young Elites sounds great doesn’t it? Thank you!

  22. Petra 03/02/2016 / 6:32 am

Unbound was amazing, I really liked The Darkest Minds, and I cannot wait for The Fever Code. Great list today, and I hope you’ll like all of these books. Thanks for sharing, and for stopping by my TTT earlier. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:23 pm

That’s good to hear, I’m really excited for that one. Yeah, I’ve heard good things about The Darkest Minds, so I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait for The Fever Code either! Thanks! No problem.

  23. hanareads 03/02/2016 / 7:17 am

Great list. There’s a lot of books here that still need to read 🙂

  24. Tiny Reads 03/02/2016 / 8:06 am

Cinder and the Lunar Chronicles in general are in my TBR too. It’s been recommended to me so many times, I really hope I’ll love it. The Knife of Never Letting Go is a really good book, I didn’t expect much but I was surprisingly glued to the story until the end. I hope you’ll like it too.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:22 pm

Yeah same here! I’ve been told how good they are so much, that I’ll probably be disappointed if it don’t enjoy it! Oh that’s good to hear! Thanks, I hope I enjoy it too!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 1:16 pm

Oh me too! Cannot wait for that one! Really? That’s good to hear.

  25. theemeraldquil 03/02/2016 / 3:40 pm

OMG The Darkest Minds is so good! I had a slightly hard time getting into it, but once I did I could not put it down! Also, YES FOR UNBOUND! Serious love for that series!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:05 pm

That’s great to hear! Yay another Unwind fan! I also have serious love for that series!

  26. Lisa 03/02/2016 / 3:41 pm

Fun list! I’ve been wanting to read The Knife of Never Letting Go, and really need to make time for it. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:04 pm

Thanks! I’ve had The Knife of Never Letting Go for ages now, I’m definitely making time for it this year! Hopefully we both love it when we read it!

  27. Lucie @ Tea Books and Fun 03/02/2016 / 3:41 pm

You HAVE to read The Darkest Minds! It’s actually scary because it’s not that far in the future… I’m also really excited for Paper and Fire, I loved Ink and Bone last year 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:03 pm

I definitely will at some point, I’ve heard such great things! Oh me too! Ink and Bone was the last book I read and I’m already so excited for Paper and Fire!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:02 pm

That’s great to hear! I’m really looking forward to it! Thanks, I’ll definitely check out it.

  28. Melissa Lee 03/02/2016 / 5:59 pm

Its always interesting to see how different bloggers respond to the topic of the week. I hope you get a chance to read (and enjoy of course) all the books you’ve listed.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:01 pm

Yeah it is! That’s why I love open ended topics, you can get so many different responses! Thanks, I hope so too!

  29. Alyce @ Everything Alyce 03/02/2016 / 8:35 pm

I’m agreeing with all of your choices! I haven’t read any of them yet but already have all of them on my TBR – hopefully we’ll be able to read some of them sooner rather than later 😛

    • iloveheartlandx 03/02/2016 / 11:01 pm

Thanks! Oh really? Great minds think alike! Yes, hopefully we will!

  30. Chachic 04/02/2016 / 2:16 pm

I also have Cinder on my TBR pile! I heard the second book in the series is also a good one. Sadly, I tried The Knife of Never Letting Go but didn’t love it as much as everyone else seemed to. I’m a big fan of A Monster Calls by the same author though.

Since it seems like you mostly have YA books in your list, I would recommend the Touchstone trilogy by Andrea K. Host and Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

    • iloveheartlandx 04/02/2016 / 2:41 pm

Yeah I’ve heard that to. Ah that’s a shame! Hopefully I like it more than you did. Oh that’s good, I’ve heard some good things about that book, so maybe after I’m done with The Knife of Never Letting Go, I’ll check that one out. Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll have to check them out!

  31. Paula, The Geeky Shopaholic 05/02/2016 / 7:34 am

I love The Lunar Chronicles! Hopefully you will too! And your post reminded me that I need to finish reading The Maze Runner Series. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 05/02/2016 / 11:52 am

That’s great to hear! Thanks! Glad to have helped remind you about a series you need to finish!

  32. Wattle 05/02/2016 / 1:26 pm

I haven’t heard of all of these, but there’s some on my TBR (Lunar chronicles in particular!) I hope that you enjoy them when you get to reading them 🙂

  33. BOOK NERD Canada 06/02/2016 / 4:11 am

OMG I haven’t read the DARKEST MINDS series yet..Or any of Neal Schusterman’s books..Though I have them all and I LOVE ME A GOOD DSYSTOPIA 😀 Love the Lunar Chronicles series and I’m really hoping you read it soon!

    • iloveheartlandx 06/02/2016 / 2:12 pm

Yeah me either! Really? You should definitely read the Unwind Dystology, they are amazing books! I love me a good dystopia too. That’s great to hear! I have a lot of books to read this year, so it probably won’t be this year, but I’m hoping I will get to it next year.

      • BOOK NERD Canada 09/02/2016 / 8:27 pm

I know! I just never get around to it. Maybe I will this month though. Love dystopia too

      • BOOK NERD Canada 10/02/2016 / 7:07 pm

I will need to put it on my pile of books to read next
