Bout of Books Read-a-thon Challenge #2

Today’s challenge is created by Lolo Fangirl, and in this challenge, I have to pick two of my all time favourite characters, and even though they are both my favourites, choose one as the winner. This is the ultimate character face-off. For mine I have decided to go with two of my favourite female heroines, Katniss Everdeen and Hermione Granger.

Character #1: Katniss Everdeen

(Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins)

Who: Katniss is the heroine of The Hunger Games, and becomes the symbol for the districts’ rebellion against the Capitol.

Pros: Great fighter, cares a lot about her sister, fiercely loyal

Cons: Obsesses over guys, kind of loses it in Mockingjay, indecisive

Character #2: Hermione Granger

(Harry Potter series by JK Rowling)

Who: Hermione is the heroine of Harry Potter, best friend to Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, and the smartest witch of her age.

Pros: Incredibly smart, never apologises for who she is, fiercely loyal, brave, stands up for her own opinions

Cons: Can be a little annoying (first two books), sticks to the rules (okay this kind of goes out the window pretty quickly but it’s annoying at first), limited sense of humour

Winner: Hermione Granger

I do like Katniss, at least in the first book, but I grew up with Hermione. Hermione was someone I aspired to be like, who I looked up to and she shows that mental strength can be just as important as physical strength.

So there’s the second challenge of then readathon, I am 36% through my current book, so should be on track to get to 50% before the end of the read-a-thon.

I’ve not read The Hunger Games yet so I don’t know much about Katniss Everdeen but I LOVE Harry Potter and Hermione is one of my favorite characters from the whole series πŸ™‚ Fun post.

The Hunger Games is good, but no one beats Hermione Granger. Thanks!

  3. What bugs me most about Katniss Everdeen is that she doesn’t seem to think things through. She just acts or things just happen to her, and she seems to be there just to tag along to destiny or something. Admittedly she does have her moments, though. Hermoine on the other hand is both smart and badass πŸ˜‰ I agree with your choice.

Yeah she’s either impulsive and does something without thinking or just allows things to happen to her, I totally agree. When Hermione does something, you know she’s fully thought through her plan and knows the consequences. She does have her moments, Katniss, but I only really liked her in The Hunger Games and felt she kind of regressed in the second two books. Hermione on the other hand took a little bit for me to warm up to (wasn’t a huge fan in the first or second books) but by the third book I had completely fallen in love with this girl who was just so awesome.
