Top Ten Tuesday #68

image

Hey everyone! I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday this week, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at the Broke and The Bookish. This week’s prompt is Top Ten Books I’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed Me A Fully Loaded Gift Card. A lot of these will probably be pre-orders as there are a lot of yet to be released books that I’m really excited for! Anyway, so here we go, the books I’d buy right this second if someone handed me a fully loaded gift card:

  1. A Study In Charlotte-Brittany Cavallaro

I love Sherlock, so I’ve been wanting to read this one for ages, but for some reason I haven’t got around to buying it, so this is definitely one of the first purchases I would make with my fully loaded gift card.

2. Caraval-Stephanie Gerber

This would be a pre-order! OMG I’m so excited for this one, it sounds so good! If I can possibly get my hands on one of the pretty UK proofs of it, I may die of excitement, but if I can’t, this would definitely be a pre-order.

3. Traitor To The Throne-Alwyn Hamilton

Pre-order number 2! I need this book so badly! I need to know what happens next like right now! Februrary can not come soon enough.

4. The Reader-Traci Chee

Another pre-order. This one sounds so, so good! September has so many great new releases.

5. Small Great Things-Jodi Picoult

Another pre-order (I told you these would mostly be pre-orders!). AGHHHH A NEW JODI PICOULT BOOK, I HAVEN’T READ ONE IN TWO YEARS AND I NEED THIS RIGHT NOW *stops to take breath*

6. The Hammer of Thor (Magnus Chase #2)-Rick Riordan

I’m currently reading the first Magnus Chase book and it’s so good and I already can’t wait for the second! (This would be another pre-order)

7. The Fever Code-James Dashner

I have been needing to know how the maze was created ever since I started the first book! Now we may finally get answers! This would be another September pre-order.

8. Every Breath-Ellie Marney

I have heard so much good stuff about this Sherlock retelling and I mean, it’s a Sherlock retelling….is that not enough?!

9. Unhooked-Lisa Maxwell

This Peter Pan retelling sounds so amazing, I really want to read it!

10. Rose Under Fire-Elizabeth Wein

I really loved Code Name Verity, so I can’t wait to read another novel by Elizabeth Wein.

11. Scarlet-AC Gaughen

I have been wanting to read this book for ages, so it would definitely be one I would buy if I had a fully loaded gift card (I’m assuming this gift card has a huge limit so I could buy all the books I want!).

12. This Is Our Story-Ashley Elston

Another pre-order, this book sounds so good and I’m already intrigued! Why can’t November come here fast enough!

13. Of Fire and Stars-Audrey Coulthurst

Another pre-order (I told you there’d be a lot!). I have heard mixed reviews about this already, but a f/f fantasy is so rare that I can’t help but be excited!

14. Timekeeper-Tara Sim

This just sounds so incredible, I love the idea of gay victorian clock spirits!

15. Gemini-Sonia Mukherjee

I’ve never read anything about conjoined twins before, so I reckon this would be really interesting.

16. How To Hang A Witch-Adriana Mather

I am such a history nerd so I like the idea of reading something based around the Salem Witch trials and the fact that the author is a descendant of Cotton Mather just makes me more excited!

I know I went over but it was less than last week so yay for that! I’m getting better! What books were on your list this week? Are you excited for a lot of upcoming releases like me? If so, which ones? Do we share any of these? Let me know in the comments! Next week’s topic is a freebie, we get to go back and choose a topic that we’ve missed, and I’ve decided to do Rebels In Literature because it seems like a fun topic to do and I read a lot of books with rebels in them! In the meantime though, I will have my #RockMyTBR July Update up for you guys soon, perhaps tonight, but definitely tomorrow, it depends how long my blog hopping takes!

There seem to be quite a few new Peter Pan retellings. Have you read Never Never as well?

  2. Rissi 02/08/2016 / 7:31 pm

I’d like to read ‘A Study in Charlotte’ at some point as well. The cover is really neat and anything Sherlock rated is bookish catnip for me. 😉

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 7:37 pm

It’s bookish catnip for me too! It does have a great cover, doesn’t it?

  3. lindseyhabets 02/08/2016 / 8:00 pm

So many good books! I’m super excited about Caraval, The Reader, Of FIre and Stars and I also really want to read Unhooked.

  4. Kelly 02/08/2016 / 8:13 pm

I’ve read both the Sherlock Holmes inspired stories on this list (they’re definitely two of my favourite Sherlock-esque stories that I’ve read)… hopefully you’re able get to them soon!

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 8:16 pm

Oh yay! Glad to hear you liked both of them. Hope to get to them soon.

  5. Rain @ Ivyclad Ideas 02/08/2016 / 8:39 pm

I can’t wait for the Hammer of Thor to come out!
Scarlet has a unique voice, interesting gender politics, and Much. I wasn’t keen on the romance though.

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 8:41 pm

Me either! Well the other stuff sounds as if it might make up for the romance!

  6. Ayla 02/08/2016 / 8:48 pm

Ohhh I spy some very nice books on this list! 😉

  7. Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense 02/08/2016 / 8:53 pm

I really want to read How To Hang a Witch as well. It isn’t available from my library currently which makes buying it hard to resist. Great list!

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 8:55 pm

You can manage to stay strong! I’m sure they’ll get it eventually 🙂 Thanks!

  8. Anjie @ Love thy Shelf 02/08/2016 / 9:30 pm

Great list! I haven’t heard of most of these so I’m glad to have some recommendations! I didn’t know Jodi Picoult had a new book coming out! How exciting 😀

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 9:37 pm

Oh cool! Glad to have given you some recommendations! Yeah she does! It is isn’t it? 🙂

  9. Greg 02/08/2016 / 9:50 pm

Great list! I may read The Sword of Summer once Hammer of Thor comes out and then read them back to back, since I haven’t started that series yet. And The fever Code sounds good- I just watched the Maze Runner and Scorch Trials movies and now I want to know how the maze was made too!

    • iloveheartlandx 02/08/2016 / 9:53 pm

Thanks! That sounds like a good idea, bingeing is always fun! Yeah it does right! You should probably read the rest of the series first though, there might be spoilers in The Fever Code.

  10. Cassie 02/08/2016 / 10:00 pm

I loved A Study in Charlotte! Hope you get to read it soon!

  11. bluecloverdust 02/08/2016 / 10:42 pm

    I definitely want Caraval!!!

  12. justanothercreativewriter 02/08/2016 / 11:02 pm

Ooh Rose Under Fire is amazing, and there will be a few familiar faces from Code Name Verity. I hope you enjoy it.

  13. AngelErin 02/08/2016 / 11:59 pm

Great list! I want Caraval so bad. And Gemini does look very intriguing. I don’t think I’ve read anything about conjoined twins either. I hope you get all of these soon. 😀

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:42 pm

Thanks! Me too 🙂 Yes it does right? Conjoined twins are a rare topic I think, there aren’t many books out there about them.

  14. Holly J 03/08/2016 / 12:45 am

Ahh, I need to get A Study in Charlotte and Every Breath as well. I still need to read Rose Under Fire. I’ve owned it for so long, I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. I’m SO excited for Caraval! And I was able to read The Reader early, and it is SO GOOD. You’ll definitely want to preorder this one! Thanks for stopping by my TTT. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:36 pm

They both sound sooooo good! Well if you read it, tell me how you like it. Me too! Oh wow, lucky! Glad you liked it! No problem 🙂

  15. HerBookishDesires 03/08/2016 / 1:05 am

Of Fire and Stars sounds really, really good! I think I’ll add it to my reading list!😃

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:26 pm

It does right? Glad to have helped you find something new to read!

  16. Amy S. 03/08/2016 / 1:06 am

I almost put Every Breath on my list too; it seems everyone loves it! And I’m also anxious awaiting Caraval!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:26 pm

It really does! Seems like everyone is, but it sounds like such a good book, so I’m not surprised!

  17. kaseygiard 03/08/2016 / 1:59 am

Gemini was really good. I really want to read A Study in Charlotte, too! And Caraval – I’ve heard great things about it already. 🙂 Great list! Thanks for checking out mine, too. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:22 pm

Good to hear! Hope we both like that one 🙂 Yes me too, I can’t wait to read it! Thanks! No problem 🙂

  18. Sarah @ Reviews and Readathons 03/08/2016 / 2:49 am

I added SO many of these to my TBR. Great list! I love hearing of new retellings especially. I also had not heard about Fever Code & I’m so excited to have answers! Thanks for sharing & stopping by my TTT earlier!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 8:21 pm

Yay glad to have helped you find some new books! Ah thanks! No problem 🙂

  19. Tracy (@Cornerfolds) 03/08/2016 / 2:54 am

Can I please just tell you Caraval is AMAZING!!! I read it last week and was totally blown away! I Hope you love it when you get to read it! Great list 😀

    Here are my Top Ten!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:54 pm

Ah lucky that you got an ARC! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks, I hope so too! Thanks 🙂

  20. Ria Sanive 03/08/2016 / 4:22 am

Oh, you have interesting titles on your list, I do wish to read Small Great Things, A study in Charlotte and Uprooted, of course. Hope you find them all…
Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

  21. Brooke Banks @The Broke Book Bank 03/08/2016 / 6:15 am

Great list! Have you tried requesting Small Great Things on Netgalley?

And the only recent Peter Pan retelling I’ve read is The Neverland Wars. There does seem to be a lot of them lately.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:50 pm

Thanks! Unfortunately it’s not available to UK members otherwise I would! Oh I haven’t heard of that one. I’ll have to check it out.

  22. bookstogetlostin 03/08/2016 / 10:10 am

I only know the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, but I plan on reading the others, too. Just have to decide which to delve in first.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:36 pm

I’d start with the Heroes of Olympus series and then work your way onwards from there!

  23. Lori (@Loriimagination) 03/08/2016 / 11:41 am

I loved Rose Under Fire! It’s heartbreaking but so good. I hope you enjoy it when you get it.

  24. alicerosesimmons 03/08/2016 / 12:54 pm

A Study in Charlotte was one of my most anticipated releases for this year, and yet I also still have to pick it up! Also might have to check out the other Sherlock retelling on here, as well Unhooked because a Peter Pan retelling just sounds really intriguing to me 🙂

    Heres my TTT

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:31 pm

Yeah same here! Glad to have helped you find some other books too.

  25. Broc's Bookcase (@BrocsBookcase) 03/08/2016 / 1:27 pm

I have been desperate for Thomas’ story ever since finishing The Maze Runner so I am massively excited for The Fever Code!!!
I didn’t know Jodie Picoult had another book coming out, like you I must have read my last one a few years ago! I will definitely need to check that one out!
I hadn’t heard of Caraval until this past weekend when I was at YALC and it seemed like everyone was talking about it. They were doing giveaways for it throughout the day and sadly I didn’t manage to win one, but I will be grabbing myself a copy once it is released 🙂
    Great list! 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:27 pm

Same here! Oh you definitely should, her new book sounds great. You were at YALC? So was I! Did you have a good time? I tried to win Caraval too but like you I didn’t get one. I will definitely be getting one when it is released. Thanks 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:22 pm

I hope you get to them at some point! Thanks, you too 🙂

  26. Kate @ Mom's Radius 03/08/2016 / 2:38 pm

A Study In Charlotte is on my TBR list as well. I LOVE Jodi Picoult, and I got a copy of Small Great Things at BEA. I actually can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. 🙂

  27. Lois 03/08/2016 / 4:20 pm

I’m torn with A Study In Charlotte. Part of me wants to read it for the Sherlok aspect but at the same time I’m not itching to get my hands on it. We’ll see. In a few years time I might give it a chance haha.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:18 pm

If I read it before you do then I’ll let you know how I like it!

  28. Chachic 03/08/2016 / 4:22 pm

Ooooh! You’re a Code Name Verity fan! Did you know that Elizabeth Wein published a series before CNV came out? It’s called Lion Hunters and is a loosely Arthurian historical fiction series set in ancient Ethiopia. I discovered (and fell in love with) her writing through that series and I’ve been a huge fan ever since.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:17 pm

Yes! Noooo! I need to get that, Arthurian historical fiction set in Ancient Ethiopia sounds awesome! Thanks for the rec 🙂

      • Chachic 05/08/2016 / 4:50 pm

Please do! That series definitely needs more readers.

  29. Amanda 03/08/2016 / 5:08 pm

Great list! Ellie Marney’s Every series is so great! Definitely one to buy! You have some preorders I can’t wait for either – The Reader, Caraval and definitely the new Rick Riordan!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:14 pm

Thanks! Oh that’s good to hear 🙂 Yay for having books in common!

  30. aubreysbooknook 03/08/2016 / 6:25 pm

yes yes yes to Magnus Chase and the Sherlock book. AHH so many books, so little money and shelf space.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 7:12 pm

I know right! Ah, the eternal problem of the bookworm, we want all the books but we don’t have enough money or space!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/08/2016 / 11:01 pm

I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you thought once you’re done 🙂

  31. Lizzy 03/08/2016 / 11:19 pm

Pre-orders on Amazon are my downfall, because they don’t charge your account until the book ships! I have soooo many right now. Eeeeep. I would love to have a local bookstore to pre-order stuff from (support local business + help my self control by having to pay up front, haha).

    • iloveheartlandx 04/08/2016 / 2:10 pm

Oh mine too! I have 3 at the moment but I’m sure I will get more soon! So would I! I always feel bad preordering from amazon rather than buying from a bookstore.

  32. Annemieke 04/08/2016 / 7:19 am

Oh yes to The Hammer of Thor. I have that on pre order at the moment. And The TImekeeper sounds so great.

    • iloveheartlandx 04/08/2016 / 1:46 pm

I can’t wait to read it. I just finished The Sword of Summer and I just want the next one now. Yes it does!

    • iloveheartlandx 04/08/2016 / 3:08 pm

Glad I’m not the only one who’s excited for that one.

    • iloveheartlandx 05/08/2016 / 11:16 am

Oh that’s great to hear, I can’t wait to read it! It’s fine, it doesn’t come out for ages yet anyway (sad).

  33. Veronika @ The Regal Critiques 05/08/2016 / 10:00 am

I’m so excited for The Hammer of Thor! The Sword of Summer was so much fun and I can’t wait to see what happens next! 🙂
