Top Ten Tuesday #43

Hey everyone! I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday for you all, courtesy of the lovely ladies over The Broke and The Bookish. This week is a Valentine’s Day themed freebie, given that Valentine’s Day is on Sunday and despite the fact that I hate Valentine’s Day, I figured I wouldn’t pass up on an opportunity for a freebie topic! I’m not really a big romance lover, so I’m not going to focus on romance novels or anything like that and I did my top OTPs a while ago, so instead, I’ve decided that for my topic this week I’m going to pick my Top Ten Favourite Romantic Quotes, and I will hopefully try to get some different ones than the ones that I chose when I did love as a theme for one of my Thursday Quotables posts (though there will probably be a couple of the same ones in here!) So here we go, these are my Top Ten (but probably more) Romantic Quotes:

  1. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return” -Nature Boy, Nat King Cole

Okay, so this one isn’t from a book, it’s from a song, but it’s used in my favourite movie, Moulin Rouge and it’s one that I’ve always really loved, so I wanted to use it here.

2. “You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.” -Mockingjay, Suzanne Collins

This quote hits me in the feels every single time!

3. “You don’t love someone because they’re perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they’re not.” -My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult

I just love this quote because to me it describes what love really is, rather than the fairytale version of love that usually seem to get in books.

4. “After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.” -Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, JK Rowling

I dare you to read this part of this book and not cry. You won’t be able to do it.

5. “Right, of course. But you keep the promise anyway. That’s what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway.” -The Fault In Our Stars, John Green

I’ll admit, I don’t like the book that this quote comes from, but it is a really beautiful quote, so I won’t hold the fact that it comes from a book I didn’t enjoy against it.

6. “I fell in love with him. But I don’t just stay with him by default as if there’s no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.” -Allegiant, Veronica Roth

I love this quote, it’s really beautiful and I think it describes the kind of love that we all really want, not to be with someone because you have to be, but because you choose to be.

7. “I love you,” he whispered, and that was the moment he knew what he was going to do. When you loved someone, you put their needs before your own. No matter how inconceivable those needs were; no matter how fucked up; no matter how much it made you feel like you were ripping yourself into pieces.” -The Pact, Jodi Picoult

Poor Chris…..he deserved so much better than Em.

8. “Love makes you want to be a better man—right, right. But maybe love, real love, also gives you permission to just be the man you are.”  -Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn

Okay, it seems strange that I’m choosing a quote from a book that’s so unromantic for a list of romantic quotes, but hear me out….whilst I would definitely say Nick and Amy’s relationship is not something anyone should aspire to, I do like the sentiment behind this quote, I love the idea that yes, love may make you want to better, but it also allows you to be exactly who you are.

9. “Love meant jumping off a cliff and trusting that a certain person would be there to catch you at the bottom.” -Second Glance, Jodi Picoult

I just think this is really beautiful.

10. “Until this moment, I had not realized that someone could break your heart twice, along the very same fault lines.” -My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult

Okay so this isn’t exactly romantic, because it’s about your heart being broken, but I still think it’s a really beautiful quote.

11. “People always say that, when you love someone, nothing in the world matters. But that’s not true, is it? You know, and I know, that when you love someone, everything in the world matters a little bit more.” -Handle With Care, Jodi Picoult

This quote is just so beautiful.

12. “Someone real,” I hear myself saying. “Someone who never has to pretend, and who I never have to pretend around. Someone who’s smart, but knows how to laugh at himself. Someone who would listen to a symphony and start to cry, because he understands music can be too big for words. Someone who knows me better than I know myself. Someone I want to talk to first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Someone I feel like I’ve known my whole life, even if I haven’t.” -Sing You Home, Jodi Picoult

I love this quote, simply because it describes everything that I want in a relationship.

13. “I love you,’ he whispered, and kissed my brow. ‘Thorns and all.” -A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J Maas

I just think this quote is really pretty and again, it shows the kind of love I want, someone who loves all of me, even my flaws.

14. “Here’s a news flash for the ladies: for every one of you who thinks we all want a girl like Angelina Jolie, all skinny elbows and angles, the truth is, we’d rather curl up with someone like Charlotte – a woman who’s soft when a guy wraps his arms around her; a woman who might have a smear of flour on her shirt the whole day and not notice or care, not even when she goes out to meet with the PTA; a woman who doesn’t feel like an exotic vacation but is the home we can’t wait to come back to.” -Handle With Care, Jodi Picoult

I so hope that this is true, because so often it seems like all guys are just looking for the Angelina Jolie type!

15. “You make me want to live, Rowan. Not survive; not exist. Live.” -Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas

I may not particularly like the new romantic relationship between Aelin and Rowan but I do love this quote, it’s very pretty.

16. “If you gave someone your heart and they died, did they take it with them? Did you spend the rest of forever with a hole inside you that couldn’t be filled?” -Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult

Not exactly the most swoonworthy of quotes, but I do think it’s really lovely.

17. “and he suddenly knew that if she killed herself, he would die. Maybe not immediately, maybe not with the same blinding rush of pain, but it would happen. You couldn’t live for very long without a heart.” -The Pact, Jodi Picoult

This quote breaks my heart just a little bit, because it shows how much Chris loved Em and how much what she did to him hurt him.

18. “That’s what love is, when your hindsight is 20/20, and you still wouldn’t change a thing” -The Pact, Jodi Picoult

This quote is just beautiful!

I probably could do more to be honest, but I reckon there’s a good place to stop! I know I went over ten this week, but I couldn’t help it, there are so many great romantic quotes in books! What did everyone else choose for their Valentine’s Day freebie? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s topic is about music and books but it seems like that one might be a little bit difficult to do, so I may choose a different topic, I don’t know. In the meantime though, I should have a new post for you soon and you could always check out my most recent discussion post about my problems with romance in YA fiction.

Wow so many great quotes! The Harry Potter one makes me tear up. Even more so now. Always 😥

    • iloveheartlandx 09/02/2016 / 11:52 pm

Thanks! Yeah me too, and it definitely has an even more special meaning now.

  2. Jen @ BookLoversAlliance 09/02/2016 / 7:20 pm

The Harry Potter quote is literally one of the best! And the ACOTR quote is another one of my favorites. So many quotes, SO MANY EMOTIONS! I did favorite couples for my TTT and Katniss & Peeta definitely made the list. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 09/02/2016 / 11:52 pm

Totally agree! Yeah these quotes all definitely hit me in the feels! Oh cool! They were on my list back when I did that topic too!

  3. Obikitty 09/02/2016 / 9:52 pm

That first quote will always remind me of Moulin Rouge too, lol. Ewan McGregor is swoon-worthy and the music and visuals were amazing. If only the ending weren’t so sad, it would be one of my favorite movies of all time.

    Great list!

    My TTT

    • iloveheartlandx 09/02/2016 / 11:48 pm

Yeah it’s probably because I’ve seen Moulin Rouge so many times! Ewan McGregor is definitely swoonworthy and the music and visuals were amazing, so that more than makes up for the sad ending for me! Thanks! I will make sure to check out your TTT.

  4. Beth (Reading Every Night) 09/02/2016 / 10:33 pm

Great quotes! I loved that whole back and forth between Katniss and Peeta in Mockingjay, the real or not real thing. I thought it was beautifully written, especially after everything Peeta had gone through as well.

  5. Kirstie Ellen 10/02/2016 / 1:02 am

Ahhh so many great quotes. I now have conflicting feelings to reread both The Hunger Games and Harry Potter all at once *explodes*. Great post, even if my heart died at the Snape quote, *sniffles*.

  6. Gennifer Eccles 10/02/2016 / 2:51 am

So many great quotes! These definitley made me want to read some Jodi Picoult! 😀 The Pact seems to be so intense!

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 4:51 pm

Thanks! Oh you should, she has some great books. It is, but it’s really beautiful too, it’s one of my favourite books.

  7. booksandblah 10/02/2016 / 2:57 am

I loved this post! So many great quotes 🙂 A bunch of them seemed to be Jodi Picoult ones. I’ve only read one of her books but she seems really good 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 4:50 pm

Thanks! Yeah I realise there were a lot of them, I just found so many pretty ones that I wanted to share. She is really good, you should definitely try some more of her books.

  8. majoringinliterature 10/02/2016 / 9:27 am

Great list! The Harry Potter quote makes me cry every single time I read it.

  9. Alyce @ Everything Alyce 10/02/2016 / 10:50 am

All of these are such brilliant quotes – you picked a great topic for freebie week! Definitely given me a hankering to read more Jodi Picoult… *runs to bookshelves and grabs them all*

  10. Lynn @ Smoke & Mirrors 10/02/2016 / 11:48 am

I’m sorry you didn’t like All the Fault in Our Stars! And that is a beautiful quote! Feel as if I really should read Gone Girl since it is a reference for so many! I love #11 and #12, especially about the symphony! Nice listing. I chose to list authors/series I LOVE but have never reviewed on my blog since I read most of them way before I had a blog! (I’m old, so I read for decades before I established a blog 2 years ago!) http://books-n-music.blogspot.com/2016/02/top-ten-tuesday-for-february-9-2016.html

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 4:48 pm

It’s alright, it just wasn’t for me. Yeah it. You should, it’s a good book, not as amazing as the hype might indicate, but it’s still a good book. Thanks! Oh cool, I’ll make sure to check out your post.

  11. Ruthsic 10/02/2016 / 12:14 pm

That’s such an amazing list of quotes – so many of these are my favorites. The Everlark one – man, that is simply beautiful. And so is the one from TFIOS!

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 4:44 pm

Thanks! Yeah it really is, I didn’t love Mockingjay, but man I love that quote! It’s one of my favourite quotes ever. Yeah the one from TFIOS really is beautiful!

  12. barefootmegz 10/02/2016 / 3:22 pm

Some lovely quotes! I especially like that you included the quote from Gone Girl – and your reasoning is so right!

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 4:43 pm

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it, I thought people would think I was weird for including a quote from a book when your relationship is so dysfunctional, so I felt I had to explain why I did!

  13. Lois 10/02/2016 / 7:15 pm

That Allegiant quote is without a doubt one of my all time favourites. Although knowing how the series ends does put a damper on things haha. My heart gets all warm and fuzzy every time I see the Real or not real quote. 😀

    • iloveheartlandx 10/02/2016 / 8:11 pm

Yeah, it is a beautiful one isn’t it? That is true! Yeah mine does too, it’s such a lovely, sweet quote.

  14. evaallbooksconsidered 10/02/2016 / 11:09 pm

Lots of Jodi Picoult, including one from my favorite, Nineteen Minutes! Great post!!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

  15. kaseygiard 11/02/2016 / 12:47 am

Some really great quotes on here. The Harry Potter one? YES!!!! I’m sensing you like Jodi Picoult. 😉 Great stuff!

  16. dvasso 11/02/2016 / 2:00 am

Awesome quotes. I’ll admit I have never actually read any Jodi Picoult, but I loved those quotes.

  17. Evie 11/02/2016 / 2:07 am

I can’t tell… but I THINK you really like Jodi Picoult. 😉 But for reals, her writing is phenomenal. Anyway, love the quotes you picked! The one from Allegiant is one of my favorites- I still have the picture one my phone reminding me not to forget it exists.

    • iloveheartlandx 11/02/2016 / 10:29 am

Yeah her writing is amazing! Thanks! Yeah it’s one of my favourites too.

  18. hermionefowl 11/02/2016 / 3:37 am

So basically, everything Jodi Picoult writes is perfect 😛 I’ve only read one of her books, and the way those were written has made me even more enthusiastic to read more!
Thanks for visiting Addlepates and Book Nerds! 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 11/02/2016 / 10:28 am

Basically yeah! Oh you definitely should, her books are amazing. No problem!

  19. Giselle 11/02/2016 / 3:47 am

Harry Potter of course! That moment is just so beautiful and tragic!

  20. Chelsea (Peril Please) 11/02/2016 / 2:33 pm

These are such amazing quotes!! But, I must say….

“You love me. Real or not real?”
    I tell him, “Real.”
    -Mockingjay, Suzanne Collins

This quote hits me in the feels every single time!

This one will always be my absolute favorite…..ALWAYS. 😛
I absolute adore quotes-I am, admittedly, a quote whore. So naturally I am extremely jealous and in awe of this wonderful post. ♥

    OH!! And I NEED THESE:

(Thought you might appreciate them like I do)

  21. Selah at A Bibliophile's Style 11/02/2016 / 2:56 pm

I think #14 is true-ish. I think everyone wants a person that makes them feel comfortable, safe, and at home. What that person looks like varies.

  22. Nicole 11/02/2016 / 8:09 pm

So many great quotes! I LOVE the Mockingjay one — it’s one of my absolute favourites! And the Sarah J. Maas quotes are gorgeous! 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 11/02/2016 / 8:28 pm

Thanks! It’s one of mine too. Yes, Sarah J Maas definitely has a knack for beautiful writing!

  23. Andrea @ The Overstuffed Bookcase 11/02/2016 / 10:37 pm

Great quotes! “Always” is my favorite. I have it as a tattoo. 🙂 But you’ve listed some really beautiful quotes here! And I’m so Team Dorian but I’ve only read the first 2 Throne of Glass books so I have yet to really get to know Rowan. Great list!!

    • iloveheartlandx 11/02/2016 / 11:22 pm

Thanks! Yeah, it’s one of mine too, if I wasn’t so scared of needles, then it’s one I might have considered getting as a tattoo! To be honest, I’m not really team any of the guys, I definitely like Dorian the most out of the three of them, but more as Celaena’s friend than anything else. Rowan’s fine, but not as good as Dorian. Thanks!

  24. adventurekettle 13/02/2016 / 5:00 pm

#2 and #4 are some of my favs as well. Looks like I need to read more of Jodi Picoult! Thanks for sharing your list 🙂 -Vonze Reader Blog

  25. novelcravings 17/02/2016 / 4:52 am

#14 Is lovely and I hope I find a man like that some day. All of these are great quotes
