Top Ten Tuesday #128

1fe45-toptentuesday

Hi all! I hope you guys have all had a good week since I last did one of these, I have been in essay hell for the past week and will continue to be for the next week, so it’s not a great week for Jo! Anyway, since it’s Tuesday, I have another Top Tuesday for you all, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic is Books With Autumn Covers/Themes. I’m twisting this slightly and going with Books To Get You In The Mood For Autumn. So here we go:

  1. The Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater

This series just gives me all the Autumn vibes! You have psychics, you have a dead Welsh King, you have magic forests and someone who can pull things out of dreams, if all of that doesn’t scream Autumn, I don’t know what does.

2. Unwind Dystology-Neal Shusterman

These books aren’t set in Autumn or anything, but the whole idea of a society where kids can be taken to pieces if their parents consider them troublemakers in order to provide organs to the rest of society, is pretty creepy and the whole series has a very creepy vibe, so I think it’s a perfect read for this time of year.

3. Skulduggery Pleasant Series-Derek Landy

This series is all about a walking, talking, magical skeleton detective, who solves magical crimes and saves the world with his human sidekick, is there anything more Halloweeny/Autumny, than that?

4. The Accident Season-Moira Fowley-Doyle

I didn’t personally love this one, but if you like very descriptive writing and good dose of the fantastical in your stories, then this might be for you and since it’s set in the week running up to Halloween, it’s perfect for this time of year.

5. The Night Circus-Erin Morgernstern

Again, not one of my favourites, but the atmosphere of this book definitely feels very Autumny, it’s the kind of book that you can curl up with a hot chocolate on a cold day and really dive into.

6. Caraval-Stephanie Garber

This one is kind of like The Night Circus but I actually liked it better. The atmosphere again just feels very autumny, with the magic and the game and all the mystery, it’s another one you can curl up with on a cold day!

7. The Archived-Victoria Schwab

With its Library of The Dead, this book is perfect for the spooky season!

8. Frozen Charlotte-Alex Bell

Creepy dolls abound, this book (and it’s prequel, which I will be reviewing soon) is perfect for October, I swear you will never look at dolls the same way after reading this!

9. Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone-JK Rowling

Okay, so I will find a way to fit Harry Potter into absolutely everything, but there is no bad time of year to read this book and I always feel in a very Harry Potter mood in the Autumn/around Christmas!

10. Timekeeper-Tara Sim

With its steampunk Victorian world, I feel like this book is perfect to read in the Autumn, I don’t know if it’s just because I read it in September/October time of last year, but it definitely gives off that kind of vibe.

So how about you? What books scream Autumn to you? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments!

Next week’s topic is a food based freebie, so naturally I’m very excited for that! I will probably not have much for you guys in the next few weeks as I’m really busy with work, so I apologise in advance for that!

Neal Shusterman’s books. Definitely on the creepy side and perfect for fall. 🙂

  2. Jaime 10/10/2017 / 11:23 pm

Oooh! I didn’t think about The Archived by Victoria Schwab. That does have fall vibes. I agree that the Raven Cycle does seem very autumn-ish as well. Awesome list. 🙂

Yup feel like it would be a very good Halloween read! Yes it is. Thank you 🙂

I love The Raven Boys series! It’s one of my favorites.

  4. vendija723 11/10/2017 / 2:46 am

I am a huge fan of Unwind, and I do understand why you put it on this list. I’ve seen Raven Cycle a lot today!

    • iloveheartlandx 11/10/2017 / 12:49 pm

Ooh yay, another Unwind fan! Yes, it’s a very seasonally appropriate read.

  5. Greg Hill 11/10/2017 / 4:46 am

Caraval and the Raven series both seem like they’d have a magical fall vibe. I need to get to Caraval at some point.

    • iloveheartlandx 11/10/2017 / 12:46 pm

They definitely do! Oh it’s so good, I hope you enjoy 🙂

Some books with amazing cover design here! Caraval is gorgeous, as are a lot of Night Circus editions! Great list ☺️

  8. Louise 11/10/2017 / 8:54 am

Completely agree about The Night Circus. I wasn’t the biggest fan but it certainly had an autumnal atmosphere.

  9. the (book) supplier 11/10/2017 / 3:27 pm

I hadn’t thought of The Night Circus or Caraval (which I haven’t read yet) for autumn, but it makes sense using the same rationale for why I put Full Tilt on my list. Happy reading!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/10/2017 / 1:01 pm

Thanks! Yeah, they just have that kind of vibe to me 🙂

  10. Susan 11/10/2017 / 6:31 pm

I’ve seen Harry Potter and THE NIGHT CIRCUS on other lists, so they’re definitely autumn-ish! I get what you’re saying about the Unwind series, too. It’s definitely got a creepy premise/vibe.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Omg I’m SO in love with so many books on your list!! The Raven Cycle is like my #1 of ever series.😍 And I especially love that it’s set starting in April because that IS actually autumn/fall for Australia so it works. 😂 And The Accident Season, Caraval, and Timekeeper are all afjldksafd beautiful squishes. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/10/2017 / 1:00 pm

Yay! Ha ha yes, I know, thought you’d like that one. Oh cool, so I’m not totally wrong about it being autumn, I’m just in the wrong hemisphere for it! I wasn’t so keen on The Accident Season, but it is perfect for the season and I love Caraval and Timekeeper!

  12. Eve L (Evilous) 11/10/2017 / 11:17 pm

I love your spin. Love the Raven Boys and just recently finished Caraval and loved it. HP also made my list! Great picks.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/10/2017 / 12:49 pm

  14. lindseyhabets 13/10/2017 / 3:16 pm

Definitely The Raven Cycle! The entire series feels very fall-ish, from covers to atmosphere 🙂

  15. Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense 13/10/2017 / 6:44 pm

I love that you associate The Night Circus with autumn. I always associate those strange, atmospheric books with the fall.

  16. Rissi 14/10/2017 / 3:21 am

Ooo! I’ve seen Maggie’s on a few lists and though I haven’t read them, they seem like great autumn reads. Also, I wish I’d thought of “Caraval.” Again I’ve not read this one BUT with its themes and plot, it sure SOUNDS like it’d be an ideal autumn read.

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, as always. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 14/10/2017 / 1:20 pm

They definitely are! Caraval is awesome, definitely one to read for this season! No problem 🙂

  17. the bookworm 15/10/2017 / 3:01 pm

Great list, I need to check out the Maggie Stiefvater books.
I wasn’t too crazy over The Night Circus either. Happy reading 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 15/10/2017 / 5:07 pm

Thanks! Oh you definitely should, they’re great. Glad it’s not just me. Thank you 🙂

  18. Lois 16/10/2017 / 2:06 pm

The Raven Cycle is definitely perfect this time of year. Any Maggie Stiefvater book is a great one to read in the autumn.

    • iloveheartlandx 16/10/2017 / 3:10 pm

Yes it is! Ha ha very true, all her books do seem to have a kind of autumnal vibe.

  19. Annemieke 16/10/2017 / 6:21 pm

I agree with a lot of these books. But especially The Raven Cycle books.
