Swoonworthy Sunday #18

This week, I’m continuing with the Gossip Girl theme from last week and focusing on the other cute guy from the series, Nate Archibald (I never liked Dan much). Again this will be based off TV Nate rather than book Nate.

Nate_Archibald_101The Gist of Nate:

  1. His full name is Nathaniel Fitzwilliam Archibald.
  2. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
  3. He is the son of Captain Howard Archibald and Anne Archibald. Anne is a member of the Van Der Bilt family.
  4. He has a string of failed relationships and stated that he always chases after girls who are wrong for him. He is the only main character who ends up single at the end of the series.
  5. He is editor in chief of the New York Spectator by the end of the series.
  6. He is a very warm and trusting person and is very kind and caring to his closest friends.
  7. He is very honest and the moral compass of the group. He is charming, laid back & funny.
  8. He is a people pleaser initially but eventually realizes that he shouldn’t be trying to make everyone else happy when he is not.
  9. He’s not comfortable with his family’s money and status and doesnt want to be controlled by them, however he does care deeply for them.
  10. He can be a little naive when it comes to the agendas of the women he is involved with.

Nate’s Best Quotes

  1. “The money, the drugs, the privilege. They keep us numb so we don’t notice it’s better in the real world”
  2. “And you know what I’m finally learning? You can’t fight against who you are”
  3. “You know it’s love when you start talking like an assassin”
  4. “Death by scarf……not so intimidating”
  5. “There’s no such thing as too awful between friends

I will have another one of these for you all next week, but tomorrow I will have my newest Monday Recommendations post, so make sure to check that out!

Swoonworthy Sunday #17

I’m kind of cheating a little this week, I’ve chosen a TV character, although technically the character I’ve chosen is a character from a book series that was adapted to TV, but the book series and TV series are so wildly different, that it may as well be a different character. The character that I’ve chosen is Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl.

chuck bassThe Gist of Chuck (from the TV series):

  1. Chuck has brown hair and brown eyes.
  2. He is the son of Bart Bass and is one of the richest people on the Upper East Side.
  3. Blair Waldorf is the love of his life.
  4. He starts off as a heartless womanizer, the typical bad boy, but softens throughout the series, showing a softer side especially towards Nate, Eric, Serena, Lily & Blair.
  5. He enjoys scheming, much like Blair.
  6. He is very loyal to his friends.
  7. He has some deep rooted insecurities relating to his father’s cold and distant nature and his mother’s absence and this means that it is hard for him to trust people.
  8. He is quite intelligent and is able to verbally spar with people and has been shown to be very witty.

Chuck’s Best Quotes:

  1. “I’m Chuck Bass” -Used frequently throughout the series, kind of his catchphrase.
  2. “3 words, 8 letters, say it and I’m yours” -2×01
  3. “I’m Chuck Bass, the love of her life. Anyone else is a waste of time” 4×20
  4. “I just wanted you to be free. Whom you choose to love with that freedom is up to you” 5×19
  5. “If two people are meant to be together, eventually they’ll find their way back” -4×09
  6. “I am so sorry for the pain I’ve caused you. And I know I can’t take it back, but I want to try and make it up to you. Even if it taes me the rest of my life” 5×06
  7. “I’m not Chuck Bass without you” -3×01

8. Blair-“Chuck Bass is a romantic, who knew?”

Chuck-“Now you do and that’s all that matters” -1×18

9. “You don’t give up on the people you love” 5×12

10. “In the face of true love, you don’t give up, even if the object of your affection is begging you to” -1×18

I will have another one of these next week, but tomorrow I will have my newest Monday Recommendations post for you, so make sure to check it out.

Swoonworthy Sunday #16

Okay, so it’s not technically Sunday, but that’s never stopped me before! I am back with another book boyfriend post for you (this thing is getting difficult, I do not read enough books with attractive guys!). Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture this week either, so my description of the guy will just have to do! The subject I have chosen for this week’s Swoonworthy Sunday is from one of my favourite books I’ve read this year, Between Shades of Grey and that character is Andrius Arvydas.

The Gist of Andrius:

1. Andrius has wavy brown hair and & blue eyes.

2. He is seventeen years old.

3. He is Lithuanian and was arrested because his family had anti-soviet ideas. He was arrested with his mother.

4. His birthday is 20th November.

5. He and Lina, whilst initially hostile towards one another, became great friends eventually falling in love and marrying after they returned from exile.

6. He is kind and sweet and gentle and helps to take care of Lina and her family.

7. He smokes.

8. He understands some Russian.

Best Andrius Quotes:

1. “Don’t be scared. Don’t give them anything Lina, not even your fear.”

2. “I’ll see you,” he said. “Just think about that. Just think about me bringing you your drawings. Picture it, because I’ll be there.”

3. (About Andrius) “Good men are often more practical than pretty. Andrius just happens to be both”

4. “I’m thinking of you.”

5. “Krasivaya. Really you have to learn it on your own”

I will have this week’s Monday Recommendations for you as soon as possible but tomorrow I will have my most recent Top Ten Tuesday for you, so make sure to look out for that.

Swoonworthy Sunday #15

My choice for Swoonworthy Sunday this week is from one of my favourite dystopian trilogies, Pure, although I have to say, whilst I liked him in the first two books, in the last book, the power kind of went to his head and I started to hate him a bit, because he seemed to be turning into his father. Still I liked him well enough in the first two books that I figured he was a decent choice for this feature, he started out as a sweet, innocent, somewhat naive boy, looking for answers and once he found them, wanting to change the world outside the Dome for the better. It’s a shame he didn’t stay that way in the last book.

The Gist of Partridge:

1. His full name is Ripkard Crick Willux.

2. He is tall & lean and has a shorn head (at least in Pure) and has unmarked, pale skin.

3. He is the son of Aribelle Cording Willux and Ellery Willux, founder of the Dome. He had a brother Sedge and Pressia is his half-sister.

4. He is a Pure.

5. He is 17 years old.

6. He is in love with Lyda Mertz.

7. He is curious about the world outside the Dome and spends most of the first book looking for answers about his mother. He starts out as quite an innocent, naive boy who knows nothing about the outside world.

8. He has incredible strength due to his strength coding.

Patridge’s Best Quotes:

1. “He closes his eyes because he doesn’t want to remember what he sees, only what he feels” -Pure, Julianna Baggott

2. “He hates being Willux’s son. It makes him a target as much as it protects him” -Pure

3. “This is how his memory has felt, a long inhale that pulls him out” -Pure

4. “The stars look like small bright punctures-almost lost in the dark-dust air- but they aren’t punctures” -Pure

So that’s this week’s Swoonworthy Sunday, I will have another one of these next week, but tomorrow I will have my usual Monday Recommendations post for you all, so look out for that.

Swoonworthy Sunday #14

This week’s Swoonworthy Sunday concludes my trio of Raven Boys features, with the final Raven Boy, Adam Parrish (I know Noah is a Raven Boy too, but he;s a ghost so I’m not featuring him in these posts). My feelings for Adam have been mixed, I wasn’t too keen on him when he was with and then obsessing over Blue, but I have grown to like him since then. I especially like his special relationship with Cabeswater. His stubborness annoys me sometimes, but I appreciate that he knows what he wants and works really hard to get it.

The Gist of Adam:

adam1. He is tall and slim and has blue eyes and unevenly cropped dusy brown hair. He has a fine boned and tanned face. He has prominent cheekbones and deep set eyes.

2. He is deaf in his left ear from a fight with his father who was abusive towards him.

3. He is very smart.

4. He is 18 years old.

5. He attends Aglionby on a partial scholarship.

6. He is friends with Ronan, Gansey, Noah and Blue.

7. He is the poorest of the Raven Boys. He lives in a rented room above a church.

8. He is thoughtful and perceptive and often preocuppied with other people’s problems.

9. He has a special relationship with Cabeswater and is the main line of communicaion between it and the group. His psychic energy is said to be very loud.

10. He has a crush on Ronan.

Adam’s Best Quotes:

1. “Rags to riches isn’t a story anyone wants to hear until after it’s done” -The Raven Boys

2. “Maybe it was good that the world forgot every lesson, every good and bad memory, every triumph and failure, all of it dying with each generation. Perhaps this cultural amnesia spared them all. Perhaps if they remembered everything, hope would die instead.” -Blue Lily, Lily Blue

3. “There is no good word for the opposite of lonesome.
One might be tempted to suggest togetherness or contentment , but the fact that these two other words bear definitions unrelated to each other perfectly displays why lonesome cannot be properly mirrored. It does not mean solitude, nor alone, nor lonely, although lonesome can contain all of those words in itself.
Lonesome means a state of being apart. Of being other. Alone-some.” -Blue Lily, Lily Blue

4. “Adam was beginning to realize that he hadn’t known Ronan at all. Or rather, he had known part of him and assumed it was all of him.” -Blue Lily, Lily Blue

I will have another Swoonworthy Sunday post for you next week, but tomorrow, I will have another Monday Recommendations post for you.

I would also like to reveal the books I will be reading for the Make Me Read-It-Read-a-thon:

-A Court of Thorns And Roses

-Ink And Bone

-Red Queen

-There was a tie for number four, so I’m choosing Code Name Verity as out of the three, it was highest on my TBR.

Happy reading to everyone taking part in the read-a-thon! I will be starting with ACOTAR tomorrow!

Swoonworthy Sunday #13

I know, I know, I promised I was going to be better at this whole posting memes on their actual respective days and then this one is a day late, but I am trying! I’m going to continue with my series on the boys of The Raven Boys this week with Ronan Lynch. I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t that keen on him in the first book, but he grew on me in the second and in the third I absolutely loved him. I know it’s a cliche, but I kind of like the bad boys in books. Plus I am seriously hoping for some Ronan/Adam romance when the last book is FINALLY released next year because the two of them were so cute together in Blue Lily, Lily Blue.

Ronan_Lynch The Gist of Ronan:

1. He is a student at Aglionby Academy.

2. He is 17 years old.

3. He is tall and lean with dark brown buzz cut hair and blue eyes. He has a sharp Roman shaped nose and a thin mouth. He is said to look like his father. He wears five knotted leather bands on his wrist and has a tattoo, a dark, twisting, celtic knot that features images from his dreams.

4. He is the middle son of Niall and Aurora Lynch.

5. He is the Greywaren, able to take objects out of his dreams. He has a raven Chainsaw, which he obtained through this talent.

6. He is dangerous and confrontational and rarely filters his words.

7. He can be incredibly compassionate, especially towards his friends which has been shown consistently throughout the series.

8. He is secretive and prone to hostility. He never lies unless it is a lie of omission.

9. He has a crush on Adam.

10. He lives at Monmouth Motoring with Gansey and Noah.

Best Quotes:

(This is about him rather than said by him but it’s beautiful and I wanted to include it here!)

1. “There was something musical about Ronan when he swore, a careful and loving precision to the way he fit the words together, a black painted poetry. It was far less hateful sounding than when he didn’t swear” -The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater

2. “A sword is never a killer; it is a tool in the killer’s hand” -The Dream Thieves

3. “Ronan didn’t need physics. He could intimidate even a piece of plywood into doing what he wanted” -The Raven Boys

4. “Everything about him was a warning: If this snake bit you, you had no one to blame but yourself” -The Dream Thieves

5. “He was so much more dangerous when he wasn’t angry” -Blue Lily, Lily Blue

I will have another one of these for you next week, but I will have my newest Monday Recommendations post for you soon, so make sure to check that out when I post it!

Swoonworthy Sunday #12

Okay, so it’s technically Monday, but I just didn’t get around to posting this yesterday, forgive me! For this week’s Swoonworthy Sunday, I decided to choose a boy from one of my favourite series, The Raven Cycle and the boy I have chosen is Gansey, although let’s face it, I could have chosen any one of the Raven Boys because they’re all hot, and I probably will do posts on the other three (or maybe just Ronan and Adam, it’s a little difficult to find Noah attractive, since he’s a ghost) at a later time. Sorry for the lack of picture, but there is no Raven Boys movie yet, so I don’t have one. They should really get on that!

The Gist of Gansey:

1. His full name is Richard Campbell Gansey III.

2. He is 17 years old and attends Aglionby Academy.

3. He is the son of Richard Gansey II and Mrs Gansey.

4. He is tall, with short tousled brown hair, hazel eyes, a straight nose and a square build. He has bad eyesight and wears contacts most of the time, but wire-framed glasses the rest of the time.

5. He is sweet and caring and sort of the ‘mother hen’ of his group of friends.

6. He is destined to die (NOOOOOOO! Why Stiefvater did you make him so lovely and let us get all attached to him when he’s always been destined to die?)

7. He has an orange Camaro which is nicknamed “The Pig”.

8. He has a crush on Blue.

Gansey’s Best Quotes:

1. “Also, truth be told, he wasn’t very good at flying a helicopter, despite several lessons. He seemed to lack the important ability to orient himself vertically as well as horizontally, which led to disagreements involving trees.” -The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater

2. “What was a kiss without a kiss?”
It was a tablecloth tugged from beneath a party service, everything jumbled against everything else in just a few chaotic moments. Fingers in hair. Hands cupping necks. Mouths dragged on cheeks and chins in dangerous proximity.” -The Dream Thieves

3. “Gansey had always felt as if there were two of him: the Gansey who was in control, able to handle any situation, able to talk to anyone, and then, the other, more fragile Gansey, strung out and unsure, embarrassingly earnest, driven by naive longing.” -The Raven Boys

4. “Gansey had no idea how old Blue was. He knew she’d just finished eleventh grade. Maybe she was sixteen. Maybe she was eighteen. Maybe she was twenty-two and just very short and remedial.” -The Dream Thieves

5. “More than anything, the journal wanted. It wanted more than it could hold, more than words could describe, more than diagrams could illustrate. Longing burst from the pages, in every frantic line and every hectic sketch and every dark-printed definition. There was something pained and melancholy about it.” -The Raven Boys

6. “It wasn’t that he expected to see the dead. All of the sources said that church watchers had to possess the second sight, and Gansey barely possessed first sight before he put his contacts in. He just hope for something.” -The Raven Boys

7. “Sometimes, Gansey felt like his life was made up of a dozen hours that he could never forget.” -The Raven Boys

8. “I am only my money. It is all anyone sees, even Adam.” -The Raven Boys

Any other Gansey/The Raven Boys fans out there? Who is excited for the last book? Who is very impatient that we have to wait until February? Anyone else dreading seeing Gansey die? Let me know!

I will have my Monday Recommendations for you (the actual scheduled post for today) soon.

Swoonworthy Sunday #11

I’m going to continue on the Throne of Glass theme this week, with another of Sarah J Maas’ attractive men, this time Prince Dorian Havilliard. I wasn’t too sure about Dorian at first, I thought he was just another pretty faced womanizer, but then the second book happened and then the third and he just got so much better with the introduction of his (spoiler alert) magic in Crown of Midnight and the stopping of his romantic interest in Celeana (personally, I think they work better as friends, I’m not really either team Dorian or team Chaol, I’m team Aelin or Celeana, depending on what you call her, I think we’re meant to refer to her as Aelin now).  I did initially like Chaol but he started to annoy me in the second and third books, whereas I started to like Dorian more, so they’ve kind of switched. Anyway, enough of my rambling, on with the post!

dorian(As with last week, I got the picture from the Throne of Glass wiki).

The Gist of Dorian:

1. Dorian is described as being handsome, tall with black hair and sapphire eyes (presumably inherited from an ancestor). It’s understandable that I like him, tall, dark and handsome is exactly my type.

2. He is the Crown Prince of Adarlan, son of the King (who still doesn’t have a name, not that I mind too much, but I think we need to work on that, eh Sarah J Maas) and Queen Georgina. He has a younger brother Hollin.

3. He is 19 (I’m almost the same age! I’ll be 19 in September).

4. (spoiler, scroll if you want to avoid) He has magic which manifests itself in snow and ice.

5. He loves to read (which I love, because who doesn’t love a bookworm!).

6. He is best friends with Chaol.

7. He is a loyal, kind friend, and is often misunderstood.

8. This isn’t really related, but I am dying to know what happened to him after the cliffhanger of the last book. Can September hurry up please?

Dorian’s Best Quotes:

1. “You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love. Just as you cannot pick which parts of me you accept.” -Heir of Fire, Sarah J Maas

2. “He looked at his friend, perhaps for the last time, and said what he had always known, from the moment they’d met, when he’d understood that the prince was his brother in soul. “I love you.” -Heir of Fire, Sarah J Maas

3. “Even if it meant us being friends again, I don’t think I would want to go back to how it was before-who I was before” -Heir of Fire, Sarah J Maas

I hope I wasn’t too spoilery with this post! I tried not to be, but it’s really hard! What do you guys think of Dorian? Anyone who has read Heir of Fire what did you think of what happened to him? What do you think will happen next? Let me know!

I will have another Swoonworthy Sunday post for you next week, but tomorrow I will be posting my Monday Recommendations, so make sure to check that out!

Swoonworthy Sunday #10

It’s technically Monday here in the UK as I write this post, but hey, it’s Sunday in other places! For today’s Swoonworthy Sunday post, I decide to write about one of the men in Throne of Glass. It’s actually pretty amazing that I haven’t done a post on any of them yet, as there are a number of swoonworthy guys in the Throne of Glass series. For today’s post I decided to focus on my favourite male character, and relatively new addition to the Throne of Glass series Rowan Whitethorn (I will try to keep this post spoiler free for Heir of Fire).

Rowan(I got the picture from the Throne of Glass wiki in case anyone was wondering!).

The Gist of Rowan:

1. He is tall, broad shouldered, and incredibly muscular. He has delicately pointed ears and slightly elongated canines. He has sun kissed skin and a tattoo on the left side of his face. He has pine green eyes and silver hair.

2. He is a  full Fae and as such is immortal.

3. He can shapeshift, his other form is a white-tailed hawk.

4. His fae powers are wind and ice.

5. He is about 400 years old, although his exact age is never stated, this can be assumed from details given in the book.

6. He and Aelin are caranams.

7. He has a rather harsh, and difficult personality, but he opens himself up to Aelin (Celeana) and they come to have a mutual understanding and respect.

Rowan’s best quotes (I won’t put the book because he’s only introduced in Heir Of Fire, so obviously they are all from there!)

1. “You collect scars because you want proof that you’re paying for whatever sins you’ve committed. And I know this because I’ve been doing the same damn thing for two hundred years. Tell me, do you think you will go to some blessed Afterworld or do you expect a burning hell? You’re hoping for hell–because how could you face them in the Afterworld? Better to suffer, to be damned for eternity and–”

2. “I wish you to become who you were born to be. To become queen.”

3. “You don’t bite the women of other males”

4. “Maeve had lied. Or lied by omission. But she knew. She knew what the girl had gone through-knew she’d been a slave. That day-that day early on, he’d threatened to whip the girl, gods above. And she had lost it. He’d been such a proud fool that he’d assumed she’d lashed out because she was nothing more than a child. He should have known better-should have known that when she did react to something like that, it meant the scars went deep. And then there were the other things he’d said…”

I know there are many Throne of Glass fans out there, so let me know, what do you think of Rowan? Do you like him? Why? And if you don’t, then why not?

I might do one of these for Dorian, I’m not sure if I’ll do one for Chaol though, sorry to all the Chaol fans, but I’m just not that keen on him.

I will be back with another Swoonworthy Sunday post next week, but tomorrow I will have another Monday Recommendations for you, so make sure to check that out. I also posted a new feature today, Quarterly Rewind, which marks the end of a new season and the beginning of the next by looking back on the previous season. This month’s is looking back on spring to mark the official beginning of summer, so make sure to check that out!

Swoonworthy Sundays #9

I’m afraid I don’t have a picture for all of you for this week’s Swoonworthy Sunday pick, as this character is neither in a movie, or has a Twitter page (which is where I got the picture of Connor if any of you were wondering), but in my head, this guy is really cute and he’s definitely swoonworthy, in other words, great for this topic! I’m not sure to be honest, why I haven’t used any characters from this  series before, as there are a lot of cute guys in these books, but I figured I would do this one today. The character I’m going to focus on this week is W.W. Hale the Fifth (or just Hale) from the Heist Society books.

The Gist of Hale:

1. We still don’t know what the W.W. in his name stands for, which is very mysterious and I find that kind of sexy, that we don’t know what his real name is, he is just Hale.

2. He is described as having light brown hair and a golden complexion, & is tall, with broad shoulders and rock hard abs.

3. He comes from an extremely wealthy family.

4. He is very secretive, as shown by the fact that we still don’t know his first name, and that we don’t learn much about his family until the third book.

5. His nickname from his family is Scooter.

6. He is often involved in sarcastic and playful banter with Kat Bishop, whom he is dating in the third book.

7. After his grandmother dies, he inherits the family company, Hale Industries.

Hale’s Best Quotes:

1. “I’m the guy who happened to be home the night Kat came to steal a Monet” -Heist Society

2. “I didn’t choose it Kat, I chose you” -Heist Society

3. “But on the upside, I guess we’re getting ready to find out if you really only love me for my jet” -a Perfect Scoundrels

4. “Either we’re a team or we aren’t. Either you trust me or you don’t”…….”What’s it going to be Kat?” -Heist Society

5. “No one makes me do anything. Not my family. Not your family……not even you” -Uncommon Criminals

Are there any other Heist Society fans out there? Do you like Hale? If not, why not? Let me know!

I will be back with another Swoonworthy Sunday next week, but in the meantime, I have more Monday Recommendations for you next week, so make sure to check those out!
