Top Ten Tuesday #292

TTT-Big2

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve had a good week since I last did one of these, as usual mine has been relatively quiet, but I finally have a job interview this week so I’m really excited about that, all those months of applying has finally paid off.Β

Anyway, as it’s Tuesday, I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday, courtesy of Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week was meant to be Books I Want To Read Again, but I did that topic a while back and it hasn’t really changed much, so I’m mixing things up this week and doing a different topic. Since it’s the first day of December today, I thought a Christmassy topic would be in order instead, so I’m going to share my Top Ten Favourite Christmas Movies. I will admit, a lot of Christmas movies aren’t the best quality, but that’s kind of the point I think!

  1. Anna and The Apocalypse

I went to see this one at the cinema with my friends from UniΒ  a couple of years ago, and it was so much fun! It’s zombies meets Christmas meets musical which I know sounds completely bonkers, but I swear it works! The soundtrack is awesome as well.

2. The Holiday

This is one of those Christmas movies that I watch every year. Is it cheesy and somewhat predictable? Yes, but that’s why I love romantic comedies and The Holiday is basically a rom-com but with added Christmas, which pretty much makes it perfect for me.

3. Last Christmas

I went to see this one at the cinema with a friend last year, and yes, again, it’s quite predictable but it definitely succeeds on the heartwarming Christmas vibes which is basically all you really want from a Christmas film.

4. Arthur Christmas

I saw a re-run of this a couple of years ago in the cinema with a Uni friend, and it was really sweet and surprisingly emotional for a film where the premise is Santa delivering presents.

5. The Princess Switch

One of Netflix’s many Christmas offerings. Is it incredibly cheesy and far-fetched? Yes. Did I have a great time watching it with my friends at Uni last year whilst we wrapped Christmas presents? Also yes.

6. Home Alone 2

I’ll be honest, I don’t actually remember if I ever saw the original Home Alone film? I probably did, but it was a while ago! It’s basically a carbon copy of the first one anyway, it’s one of those sequels that probably doesn’t need to exist, but it’s pretty fun.

7. A Heartland Christmas

Technically a TV movie, but I’m counting it because Heartland is one of my favourite shows and I love their Christmas special, it’s really heart-warming and cosy and that’s really what you want from a Christmas film. I hope they do another one before the series ends!

8. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

I haven’t watched this one in a while, but I remember enjoying it when I was a kid, and the more I see Grinch memes, the more I realise that I actually relate to certain aspects of the character!

That’s all I have for this week, a slightly shorter list than normal but there are a lot of films that I enjoy watching around Christmas that aren’t necessarily Christmas related (like Disney films etc) so I wanted to focus on the ones that actually have Christmas as a plot point. What are some of your favourite Christmas films? Let me know in the comments!

I’ll be back with another Top Ten Tuesday next week, it’s a Winter/Holiday Freebie and as I did a Winter Reads list a couple of years ago, I’m going to do Top Ten Wintery Covers as I really enjoyed doing the Autumn Covers topic earlier in the year and you guys always seem to enjoy cover themed posts!Β

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is such a fun film.

    My post.

  2. Susan 01/12/2020 / 4:00 pm

I love Christmas movies, although I’ve actually only seen two of the ones you listed. I love the Home Alone movies, except for the third which is nowhere near as good as the first two. My favorite all-time Christmas movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. I also adore Elf, Prep & Landing, Charlie Brown’s Christmas, Christmas With the Cranks, and the original Grinch.

    Happy TTT!

Thank you! I’ve never seen the third one, the only one I can actually remember seeing is the second one, though I think I may have seen the first at some point? I’ve never seen that one, it feels like something I should change soon. I actually meant the original Grinch on this list, the Jim Carrey one, I’ve never seen the animated one.

Great list! I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Holiday. Best of luck for your interview!

The Holiday is my absolute favorite! I also really enjoyed The Princess Switch – yes it’s indeed terribly cheesy and far-fetched, but I really liked it anyway πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:49 pm

Mine too! Oh same, a lot of my favourite movies are super cheesy, cheesy is a compliment for me!

  6. HerBookishDesires 01/12/2020 / 8:52 pm

  7. FangirlFlax 01/12/2020 / 9:45 pm

I love a good cheesy romcom, especially at Christmas. No better time of the year for one!

  8. anovelglimpse 01/12/2020 / 10:08 pm

My favorite Christmas movie is Elf, but Arthur Christmas is also special because I can remember taking my daughter as a small child and my mom to go see it together. I miss those days.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:47 pm

Ah I went to see that one in the cinema with my Dad when it came out! Yes, it’s been forever since I last went to the cinema…..

      • anovelglimpse 03/12/2020 / 5:55 pm

I haven’t been in a really long time. Might be years! And now won’t for years probably too.

  9. agreatreviewer 01/12/2020 / 10:25 pm

I just watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas yesterday…though it was the Jim Carrey one! Omg I love that movie! Lol. Great topic and picks!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:47 pm

I meant the Jim Carrey one, I should have made that more clear! Thank you πŸ™‚

  10. Leslie 01/12/2020 / 10:50 pm

I love Christmas movies!! The Holiday, Family Stone, Home Alone 1&2, & Elf are ones we re-watch every year. My son is currently watching The Grinch on Netflix with my Husband. haha

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:46 pm

Me too! The Holiday is the only one I tend to watch annually, though I’m adding Anna and The Apocalypse to that now as this will be the third year running I’ve watched it around Christmas. Love that!

  11. tabularasablog 02/12/2020 / 3:51 am

Good luck for your interview. And you’ve given me a lot to feed my holiday movie addiction! So thanks for that πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:44 pm

Ah cool, like I said, I can’t really remember if I ever saw the first one, I think I did but they’re both so similar that they’ve kind of blurred into one for me. I have heard that!

  12. MomsBookCollection 02/12/2020 / 7:03 pm

So many good ones. Home Alone and How the grinch stole christmas!! yes.

  13. The Book Lover's Sanctuary 02/12/2020 / 7:27 pm

Lovely list – Deck The Halls has always been a favourite cheesy Christmas film, so bad it’s adorable! And Christmas Chronicles and Jingle Jangle on Netflix were nice additions too!

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:37 pm

Thank you! I don’t think I’ve seen any of those, so I’ll have to check them out.

  14. Louise 02/12/2020 / 9:06 pm

I’m not a huge fan of Christmas movies but I need to check out Anna and The Apocalypse.

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:37 pm

Ah you should, it’s so much fun! Definitely not your typical Christmas movie, the focus is less on the schmaltzy stuff and more on the zombies!

  15. Greg 03/12/2020 / 4:15 am

I love a good Christmas movie! And the Home Alone movies are fun… πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 03/12/2020 / 5:35 pm

Me too! Yes they are, I’ve only seen the first two but apparently those are the only ones worth seeing πŸ™‚

  16. pagesandtea 03/12/2020 / 8:29 am

Some great choices here. I enjoyed The Holiday and Arthur Christmas, and the Home Alone movies are always worth a watch at this time of year πŸ™‚

  17. dinipandareads 04/12/2020 / 10:59 am

Ooh, I’d love to rewatch Last Christmas! That one made me surprisingly emotional by the end but I absolutely loved it so hard πŸ₯° I also love rewatching the Grinch every year! Such a classic. One of my faves is Love Actually too and that’s probably my most rewatched holiday movie! Great list πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 08/12/2020 / 1:14 pm

Yes it was definitely a more hard hitting Christmas film than I’m used to, but I thought it was really lovely! Ah yes definitely, I loved it as a kid. I know a lot of people really love Love Acutally, I’ve kind of grown lukewarm to it over the years. Thank you πŸ™‚

  18. Dedra @ A Book Wanderer 05/12/2020 / 3:24 am

Oh, you have to watch the first Home Alone! It’s one of our favorites. We love the second one, too, but the first is the best! Personally, I think it’s quite different from the second. πŸ˜‰ I love The Holiday, too! I still need to watch Last Christmas. I’m currently “watching” A Christmas Story while I blog hop. ❀

    • iloveheartlandx 08/12/2020 / 1:09 pm

I might have seen parts of it, but I’m just not sure if I’ve seen it all the way through! Will try and find it over Christmas. Yes, The Holiday is a great film. Ah love that πŸ™‚

  19. Jess Watkins 07/12/2020 / 2:20 pm

The Holiday and Arthur Christmas are two of my favourites too πŸ™‚

  20. Hundreds&Thousands 08/12/2020 / 6:45 pm

Oooo Ive always liked the look of the holiday! Your post might have convinced me to watch it… My idea for this tag was to have a quiz – see if you can guess the Christmas book from a snippet of the cover. The first couple of people to get them right will get a shoutout, so give it a try! (I can’t tell if this sounds too estate agenty, very sorry if it does ha). https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2020/12/08/ttt-guess-the-christmas-book/

    • iloveheartlandx 09/12/2020 / 6:45 pm

It’s definitely a fun one. Ooh I’ll have to have a look at that, sounds fun!
