Top Ten Tuesday #289

TTT-Big2

Hi everyone! I hope you’ve all had a good week since I last did one of these, as I said last week, I’m back up in Stirling and I’ve definitely been enjoying the quiet time by myself, it’s something that’s been in short supply this year!

Anyway, it’s Tuesday, so I have another Top Ten Tuesday for you all courtesy of Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week I’m talking about Song Titles That Would Make Great Book Titles (I switched the original topic around as I thought this way would be more fun). So I’ve scrolled through my IPod for songs, and chosen 10 that I think would make interesting stories, plus tried to imagine a little what those books would be about:

  1. She Used To Be Mine-Waitress Soundtrack

Definitely sounds like it could be a book right? But I don’t imagine a traditional contemporary romance for this one, since the song, from the show Waitress is all about Jenna trying to find herself again after years in an abusive marriage, I picture a book with the same title being along a similar theme: the story of a woman coming out of an abusive relationship and trying to rediscover the person she was before.

2. Always Remember Us This Way-A Star Is Born (2018) Soundtrack

This definitely seems like it would be something in the vein of The Fault In Our Stars, could be YA or Adult, but I imagine the story would be of a couple where one partner has a terminal illness (I’d go with the guy since these kinds of stories do seem to trend towards having the woman die), and it follows them on their last summer together trying to cram in all the experiences they can before he dies.

3. Back To December-Taylor Swift

Okay my idea for this one really has nothing to do with the story of the song, but I think Back To December would be a perfect title for one of those holiday themed short story anthologies!

4. Goodbye Until Tomorrow-The Last Five Years

Okay, I originally had a happy story idea in mind for this one but then I came up with a morbidly sad one that I liked better, so I’m going with that. This story would start with a couple going on their first date, and they really like each other but the guy dies in a car crash on his way home. The rest of the story would follow the girl’s ideas of different scenarios of what might have happened had they had more time together.

5. As Long As You’re Mine-Wicked Soundtrack

As Long As You’re Mine definitely gives me the vibes of a story about a secret affair, something kind of in the vein of Normal People where the two main characters are hiding their relationship from everyone for some reason and it’s inevitable that it’s not going to last.

6. Our Last Summer-Mamma Mia Soundtrack

This one is an easy one, I feel like this would be a group of friends who are about to go their separate ways for University having one last big summer adventure together travelling around Europe (I did initially think of a romantic scenario for this one, but I feel like a lot of these ideas have been based around couples and I wanted to have one that wasn’t!).

7. Learning How To Lose You-Nashville Season 5 Soundtrack

Because apparently I love some grief, I have another sad idea for this one, this I feel would be something in the vein of PS I Love You where the main character is having to learn to move on after their partner’s death.

8. The Last Great American Dynasty-Taylor Swift

Honestly any of the songs of folklore would make a great book since they’re all kind of like mini stories, but I had a great idea for this one: an heiress runs away from the family fortune and this book follows her adventures as she causes all kinds of embarrassment for her family.

9. Burn With You-Lea Michele

I feel like this one would follow a couple after a really messy breakup where they’re both out to get revenge on each other and destroy each other’s lives: think something like the movie The Break-Up with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, where they breakup and neither of them wants to give up their shared apartment so they both try and make each other miserable.

10. You’re Timeless To Me-Hairspray

I love the idea of this one being kind of a love story through the ages, it would start with an elderly couple and would flashback through their lives together.

I realised that most of these are romance based stories which is very weird for me, but what can I say, it’s very difficult to find songs that aren’t based around some kind of love story! Do you like any of these songs? What songs do you think would make good books? Let me know in the comments!

I’ll be back with another Top Ten Tuesday next week, this time we’re going to be talking about Characters I’d Name A Pet After, which should be a fun one!ย

I like what you did with this prompt! Many of Taylor Swift’s songs would make good book titles, I think. ๐Ÿ™‚

    My post.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:17 pm

Thank you! Yes, her songs have such strong narratives anyway that they’re a pretty natural choice for book titles.

  2. dinipandareads 10/11/2020 / 2:24 pm

Love your twist for this week’s prompt! Not only do I love a lot of these things, but I can also definitely see myself picking up many of these titles. I can see all of them being romances or at least involving romance (but also great friendship vibes too)! Great list ๐Ÿ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:16 pm

Thank you! I definitely realised the irony of me coming up with a list of almost entirely romance based books after I’d done it, when romance is one of the few genres of books that I don’t read, but I agree, I could definitely see a lot of these working for friendship based stories as well.

  3. Jess @ Jessticulates 10/11/2020 / 4:15 pm

Love your twist on this week’s topic! The Last Great American Dynasty is one of my favourite songs from folklore so I would definitely read it, and Our Last Summer sounds like it could be such a fun, bittersweet celebration of friendship, too.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:12 pm

Thank you, it was so much fun to do! It’s one of mine too, all of the songs on folklore would make great books but I thought that one in particular would make a really fun one. Fun, bittersweet celebrations of friendship is definitely one of my brands when it comes to books I like!

  4. Dedra @ A Book Wanderer 10/11/2020 / 4:39 pm

Oh I love how you flipped the prompt this week! And I’m very intrigued with “Burn With You.” That’s a book that needs to happen. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:07 pm

Thank you! Ha ha it’s the enemies to lovers book of everyone’s dreams.

  5. FangirlFlax 10/11/2020 / 4:43 pm

Love this so much! I SO want a collection of shorts on Taylor Swift songs – and you’re entirely right about the dark and twisty romance ‘As Long As You’re Mine’ could give!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:07 pm

Thank you! I did a very long time ago write a Glee fanfic that was a collection of short stories about Finn and Rachel’s relationship reimagined through Taylor Swift songs so that might have been slightly where that idea came from! It would be so great right? That title has forbidden love written all over it.

      • FangirlFlax 12/11/2020 / 8:47 pm

๐Ÿ˜… I can see how Taylorโ€™s back catalogue would lend itself to that!

  6. anovelglimpse 10/11/2020 / 6:06 pm

Someone needs to get on writing that Back to December holiday romance. I’m here for it.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:05 pm

I actually did write a glee fanfic years ago that was based around Taylor Swift songs and did Finn and Rachel’s breakup from S2 reimagined around that song! So not quite the same, but close!

  7. Leah's Books 10/11/2020 / 6:17 pm

I love how you put a unique spin on this weekโ€™s topic, and you did it really well! Each of these song titles sounds like a book that Iโ€™d really be interested in reading. Great list.

  8. Greg 10/11/2020 / 7:40 pm

I love holiday anthologies, and wish we’d see more of them! One LAst Summer sounds fun also!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:02 pm

I’ll be honest, I’ve never actually read any! Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Girl About Library 10/11/2020 / 9:12 pm

I would love to read some Taylor Swift song inspired novels. All of her songs feel like stories anyway, especially “White Horse”!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:01 pm

Yes definitely, she has such a narrative style, any one of her songs would make brilliant books. Ah White Horse is one of my favourites!

  10. gphusselbee 10/11/2020 / 10:03 pm

omg i love these choices and i mentionned taylor swift loads in mine tooo!!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 5:00 pm

Thank you! I definitely had to consciously limit myself because I could have filled my entire list with just Taylor Swift songs. Heck folklore alone, that entire album could be a book!

  11. thebookishlibra 10/11/2020 / 11:24 pm

Great choices. I especially love your additions to the Mamma Mia and Wicked soundtracks.

  12. Leslie 11/11/2020 / 2:11 am

I love what you did here!! Nashville was so good. I miss it!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:58 pm

I do too, I’ve been in the mood to rewatch it again for months but NowTV is the one streaming service that I don’t have!

      • Leslie 17/11/2020 / 2:14 am

Ughhh. I hate when that happens!!! All these streaming services are taking my favorite shows off Netflix and I donโ€™t want 20 streaming services!

      • iloveheartlandx 17/11/2020 / 1:17 pm

Me too! I mean I guess that’s their plan, try and get you to buy as many streaming services as possible. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime as my main two, I had Disney+ for a few months over the summer to watch Hamilton, and again for my mum to watch The Mandalorian, but I wouldn’t want to pay for three streaming services long term!

      • Leslie 23/11/2020 / 3:49 am

Yeah, it’s crazy how many they are now. I feel like it’s back to cable at this point if I have to buy each channels service! lol! We have Netflix, Amazon and the Disney/Hulu/ESPN+ ($13 FOR ALL THREE!) and that’s it. We pick up HBO once a year for a month to catch up on shows there.. same with Starz when the new season of Outlander comes out. We keep Disney bc we use it every single day with my son. haha

      • iloveheartlandx 24/11/2020 / 4:43 pm

It really is! Ugh I know, I mean I get it, they’re all trying to be competitive but it’s quite annoying that every channel seems to need to have its own streaming service as well now. I definitely get that, that’s how I ended up with Prime in the first place I think, because I wanted to watch Outlander, but then they ended up having quite a lot of good TV stuff so I kept it. That is completely fair-I have most of my fave Disney movies on DVD anyway, so I don’t really feel the need to have the streaming service the whole time.

  13. Abigail 11/11/2020 / 9:21 am

I love the twist you did on this post! I also love She Used to be Mine, I used to play it on repeat in my playlist!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:57 pm

Thank you! It’s my favourite song from the show and I definitely play it often, the actress who played Jenna when I went to see Waitress in the West End did a stunning version of it.

  14. Marianne Maurer 11/11/2020 / 11:05 am

That’s a great twist on the topic. I’d love to read “Our Last Summer” probably because I love the song so much but I’m sure it would make a great story.

Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:55 pm

Thank you! I love the song too, and thought it would make a really fun Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants kind of scenario for a book.

      • Marianne Maurer 13/11/2020 / 12:03 pm

I haven’t read the Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants but I’m sure you’re right there. I have read Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, though, and it would fit there, as well. Though I love the bluegrass music they used for the film.

      • iloveheartlandx 17/11/2020 / 1:24 pm

I mean it’s similar to the Ya-Ya Sisterhood in that it follows four girls but that’s about it, Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants is much lighter! I’ve never seen Ya-Ya Sisterhood, will have to check it out sometime.

      • Marianne Maurer 18/11/2020 / 9:06 am

Yes, it sounds like a very light read and they often bore me. But I’m glad these books exist so there is something there for everyone.

      • iloveheartlandx 24/11/2020 / 4:50 pm

They’re not usually my kind of thing either tbh, but it’s great to have options for everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Just Another Girl and her Books 11/11/2020 / 6:18 pm

This is a fun list and I like your twist. I bet you could change these titles into something other than romance if after the title line you added “And then the murders started.” LOL.

Have a great week. – Katie

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:54 pm

Thank you! Ha ha now that definitely sounds more me ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Jen at Introverted Reader 11/11/2020 / 7:50 pm

I love your twist! Oddly enough, the one that spoke to me the most was Goodbye Until Tomorrow. I avoid sad books at all costs so I don’t know why that one grabbed my attention. Must be a mood. But your story idea fits the title perfectly.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:53 pm

Thank you! I thought it was an interesting idea to explore a kind of what if relationship, though I’m sure there are probably books already out there that follow a similar idea.

  17. Louise 11/11/2020 / 8:13 pm

I love the twist here! And there’s so many good ones!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:45 pm

Thank you, it was such a fun one to do, one of my favourites from this year I think!

  18. Oh, I love so many of theseโ€”and it’s so nice to see You’re Timeless to Me. I would definitely read a book about characters like Edna and Wilbur.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:43 pm

Thanks! Yeah, I liked the idea of having a book centred around an older couple, it’s not something you see all that often ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Rose @ Wanders Between Pages 12/11/2020 / 7:29 am

I like the idea of switching the prompt. One moment there I thought I was wrong with this week’s prompt, then I continued reading, and you switched it! Clever work there! I think Back to December would be a perfect Holiday romance book. The story behind that song could be a perfect startup to it though.

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 4:42 pm

Thanks! I just wasn’t really feeling the original idea and thought using song titles inside would give me more chance to be creative. Ah yeah, didn’t think of that, that would be quite cool!

  20. Tracy (@Cornerfolds) 12/11/2020 / 5:46 pm

I love your spin on this topic! Some of these would definitely make really interesting books! Burn With You is one I’d love to read!

    • iloveheartlandx 12/11/2020 / 8:29 pm

Thank you! I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a book with very similar vibes to that song out there already, it sounds like a classic YA scenario!

  21. Jocelyn 13/11/2020 / 11:02 am

This a very cool take on the topic!

  22. lindseyhabets 14/11/2020 / 1:26 pm

I love your take on the topic! You’re right, it is a lot of fun to do it the other way around and I like your picks! Definitely agree that every song on Folklore could be it’s own book too ๐Ÿ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 17/11/2020 / 1:21 pm

Thank you! Oh 100%, it’s one of the reasons I love that album so much, every song is like it’s own little story.

  23. Lois 15/11/2020 / 9:50 pm

Love your take on the topic. I agree that the entire Folktale album would make great books. ๐Ÿ˜€
