Top Ten Tuesday #190

Hi all! I hope you’ve all been having a good week, I’ve had my friends up to stay this weekend for our annual Christmas meetup and we had so much fun, we did our annual Christmas trip to Edinburgh, we finally went up to Stirling Castle together after four years of them visiting me here, we ate a ridiculous amount of food, watched a ridiculous amount of movies, put up my family’s Christmas tree and exchanged Christmas presents, so we squeezed an awful lot into just a few days!

Anyway, since it’s Tuesday, I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday, courtesy of Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week we’re talking about our Winter TBRs. I only actually read 5 of the books from my Autumn TBR, though two are still ongoing, so I’m hoping I will do better for my Winter one, although I do start my Journalism project (dissertation equivalent) in January, so I am conscious that reading time is going to be scarce for the next 3 1/2 months! Still, this is what I’m hoping to read over the next three months:

  1. Siege and Storm (Grisha Trilogy #2)-Leigh Bardugo

I want to catch up with the rest of the Grisha trilogy in January before King of Scars comes out at the end of the month. I wasn’t that sure about Shadow and Bone, but my friend Nicola assured me that the series gets better and I’ve been told that I have to read the rest of the Grisha trilogy to understand King of Scars, so I’m hoping to catch up on the other two books in January. Siege and Storm is also my #RockMyTBR challenge book for January.

2. Ruin and Rising (Grisha Trilogy #3)-Leigh Bardugo

Much like above, I am hoping to read Ruin and Rising in January in order to catch up before King of Scars comes out.

3. Alex and Eliza-Melissa De La Cruz

Alex and Eliza is my #RockMyTBR book for February as well as being part of Hamilbruary, where I am only reading Hamilton related books in February since I’m seeing the show at the end of the month and I just want to keep the excitement going!

4. Hamilton and Peggy!: A Revolutionary Friendship-L.M. Elliott

I’m also reading this in February in the run up to Hamilton, and I’m really looking forward to it, as I don’t really know too much about Peggy Schuyler, so I’m hoping that this book will give me a little more insight into her and her life.

5. To Kill A Kingdom-Alexandra Christo

This is my March #RockMyTBR book and I’m really excited for it, because I’ve heard such good things about it and my friend Hannah who has a really similar taste in books to me really loved it, so I’m hoping that I will love it just as much!

6. Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Children of Blood and Bone #2)-Tomi Adeyemi

I loved Children of Blood and Bone when I read it over the summer, so I’m super excited for the sequel to come out in March, I really want to know what happens to Zelie and Amari next!

7. Enchantee-Gita Trelease

I’m so excited for this one because it sounds so incredible, magic in revolutionary Paris sounds ridiculously up my street. This is going to be my next Netgalley read when I’m finished with The Enchanted Sonata and I have to say, I cannot wait!

8. A Curse So Dark and Lonely-Brigid Kemmerer

I have to admit, I don’t really know that much about this one, I requested it off Netgalley on a whim, but it does sound amazing, apparently it’s like a contemporary fantasy version of Beauty and The Beast, so I’m hoping it turns out to be as good as it sounds.

9. Kingdom of Ash-Sarah J Maas

I will probably never not be reading this book, but I’m hoping to make a concerted effort in the front half of 2019 to try and finish it, or at least knock a good chunk of it out-I really want to find out how it ends but at the same time, I don’t want it to end, so I’m not quite sure how long it’s going to take to finish!

10. Descendant of The Crane-Joan He

I have to admit, that again, I don’t know much about this other than it was described as Chinese Game of Thrones and that the cover is beautiful, so I’m hoping that it will be as good as it sounds!

So there we go, the books I’m attempting to knock off my TBR this Winter, I don’t think I’ll manage them all, but we’ll see! What books are on your TBR this Winter? Have you read any of mine? Are you excited for any of mine (since I know there are quite a lot that haven’t come out yet on here!)? Let me know in the comments!

Next week is obviously Christmas, and we’re supposed to be doing Books That We Hope To Find Under The Tree This Morning, but since I generally don’t get books for Christmas, I’m going to take a slightly different tack, and talk about Christmas TV/Movies I’m Looking Forward To Watching Over The Festive Period.

In the meantime, I’m going to have quite a lot for you over the next week or so as the year wraps up, I’ll have a final discussion post of December, my End of Year Survey, my last Quarterly Rewind of the year coming up on Friday and potentially a final Writing Corner post of the year if I can fit it in, so keep your eyes peeled, because there’s going to be a lot going on here before 2018 is over!

Great list! I want to read the Grisha trilogy this winter, too, and I’m hoping to finally get to Children of Blood and Bone this week. I hope you enjoy all of these!

  3. Nerd Narration 18/12/2018 / 7:39 pm

I hope you enjoy the rest of the Grisha trilogy!! Book 2 has the intro of one of my fave characters in all the Grishaverse so here’s hoping you like it!

I also listed A Curse So Dark & Lonely on my list this week and am so thankful I don’t have to wait much longer!

Feel free to check it out here:

Kingdom of Ash is such a huge one! It’s worth it though. I can’t wait for Children of Virtue and Vengeance! πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:53 am

It really is massive-but it’s good to hear it’s worth it. Me either!

  5. Louise 18/12/2018 / 8:46 pm

Oh, I really loved To Kill A Kingdom!

  6. daneelolivaw33 18/12/2018 / 8:49 pm

I haven’t read any of these, but the “Chinese GoT” sounds like so much fun. Good luck with the TBR!

  7. Just Another Girl and her Books 18/12/2018 / 9:44 pm

So jealous of you getting a Curse So Dark and Lonely. I hope you enjoy it, and Chinese GoT sounds like fun too. Have a great week and good luck with your Journalism project. I’m sure you’ll rock it. – Katie

  8. Lisa 18/12/2018 / 10:55 pm

The Hamilton-related books sound like such fun! I may need to check one (or both) out! πŸ™‚

  9. foreverlostinlit 18/12/2018 / 10:59 pm

I desperately need to catch up on the Grisha trilogy as well. I was also really ‘meh’ about Shadow and Bone, but people love this trilogy so much I feel like there has to be more, plus I’m really interested in the Darkling’s character. Kingdom of Ash and To Kill a Kingdom are also two I’d like to get to. I hope you get to read these, and best of luck with your Journalism project!

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:48 am

I’ve heard that the second and third books are better, so I’m willing to give the rest of the series a shot, plus my friend really loves Nikolai and I want to see what all the fuss is about. I hope you enjoy them, plus Kingdom of Ash and To Kill a Kingdom. Thank you!

  10. kozbisa 19/12/2018 / 12:03 am

Your meetup with your friends sounds like it was so much fun! I have not read any of the books on your winter TBR, but I do hope to get to KoA at some point. I love the ToG series, and am sad it is over.

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:44 am

It was! I hope we both enjoy Kingdom of Ash when we read it.

  11. EnchantΓ©e was absolutely amazing! I just wrote my TTT for January 1st, and it’s on there (somewhere, I won’t say where).

The Grisha Verse trilogy and Kingdom of Ash are on my Winter TBR as well. I don’t want to read Six of Crows until I start at the beginning.

It’s funny how people from around the world talk about going places like Edinburgh, which probably seems so ordinary to you, and it seems so exotic over from where I am. I’m glad you got to meet up with your friends!

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:43 am

That’s great to hear you enjoyed it, I’ve been hearing great things. Ah Six of Crows is awesome, I hope you enjoy it, and the Grisha Trilogy too. I suppose it’s the same anywhere, places that you go to all the time would probably seem exotic to me! Thanks, I am too, we don’t get to see each other nearly enough with them down near London and me in Scotland.

  12. Niamh (@niamhkate) 19/12/2018 / 1:00 am

I haven’t read any of those books but The Grisha Trilogy (and Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom) are on my Christmas wishlist (along with SO many other books, oops).

  13. Mir (TBR and Beyond) 19/12/2018 / 1:54 am

I have a couple of these on my list for next year. I absolutely loved the Grisha trilogy hope you enjoy them

  14. Michelle (@PinkPlkaDotBlog) 19/12/2018 / 2:21 am

I’m definitely going to read A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY!! I loved the last Brigid Kemmerer book I read and want to read more.

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:33 am

I haven’t actually read any of her books before, this will be my first one-it’s encouraging to see that you loved one of her other books though. Hopefully we both enjoy this one!

  15. Deanna Reads Books 19/12/2018 / 2:44 am

I’m hoping to read to kill a kingdom in the new year for beat the backlist.

  16. Tracy (@Cornerfolds) 19/12/2018 / 2:53 am

Yesss! I hope you love the rest of the Grisha Trilogy! It’s one of my all-time favorites! I also really loved To Kill a Kingdom and A Curse So Dark and Lonely!

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:32 am

I hope so too! Well that’s great to hear, hopefully I enjoy them as well.

  19. somethingofthebook 19/12/2018 / 5:04 am

Ooooh, I really want to read Enchantee and A Curse So Dark and Lonely!

  20. So excited for you to read To Kill a Kingdom 😍 Enchatee sounds so good! When is it being released? Can’t wait for the second Children of Blood and Bone 😍

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:29 am

I’ll let you know how I like it! I know right, it comes out 21st February. Me either, the last one left off on such a cliffhanger!

  21. Love, Rosie 19/12/2018 / 11:45 am

I absolutely LOVED the Grisha trilogy, so I highly recommend getting to those books ASAP! I’m excited to hear that your friend loved To Kill a Kingdom so much – I’ve gotten two opposite sides of the spectrum when it come sto reviews for it. I hope I like it too! It’s sitting on my nightstand, just waiting to be picked up!

And I feel like it will take me all of 2019 to finish Kingdom of Ash too, holy crap that it a HUGE book! (Not really mad about it though? Don’t want the story to end!)

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 11:58 am

I will be reading them in January! Well it’s always good to hear different opinions, hopefully we both fall on the enjoy it side. Ha ha I feel the exact same way about Kingdom of Ash.

  22. danidewey 19/12/2018 / 5:48 pm

My bestie keeps telling me that I *have* to read To Kill a Kingdom. Hope you enjoy it!

  23. Keri 19/12/2018 / 7:50 pm

I’m “currently” rereading Ruin and Rising (well, I was a couple of months ago, but I plan to return to it shortly)!
And oooh, I hope you enjoy To Kill a Kingdom! It’s such a fun, dark The Little Mermaid retelling! πŸ™‚
    Happy reading!

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 10:43 pm

Ah well I hope you enjoy however much you have left of it! Thank you, I hope I will too, Sea Witch was a bit of a let down so I’m hoping for a Little Mermaid story with a bit more bite this time around!

      • Keri 19/12/2018 / 10:55 pm

Thanks! And yes, I haven’t read Sea Witch, but there’s definitely more bite in this retelling, and claws too! πŸ˜‰

      • iloveheartlandx 20/12/2018 / 1:11 pm

Well that’s great to hear, I have a good feeling that I will enjoy it πŸ™‚

  24. ariellereads 19/12/2018 / 10:27 pm

This is such a great list! I also wanted to re-read the Grisha books before King of Scars but I definitely won’t have time–oh well! Also I NEED to read the Eliza and Hamilton books. I am obsessed with the play so I know I will enjoy them just…not enough time, once again lol πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 19/12/2018 / 10:40 pm

Thank you! Ah that’s a shame-I’m devoting the whole of January to them so I have the time to catch up before King of Scars. Ugh tell me about it, too many books not enough time is basically my life mantra.

  25. Destiny @ Howling Libraries 19/12/2018 / 10:59 pm

Great TBR! The Grisha series definitely does improve in book 2, plus you meet the BEST character in book 2, so I hope you enjoy it! I also LOVED To Kill a Kingdom!

    • iloveheartlandx 20/12/2018 / 1:11 pm

Thanks! So I’ve heard-I can’t wait to meet Nikolai properly. That’s great to hear πŸ™‚

  26. Loretta @ The Laughing Listener 20/12/2018 / 12:06 am

I want to read most of these too!! I’m especially excited for A Curse So Dark and Lonely! And Kingdom of Ash was so good, I hope you love it!! I can definitely understand not wanting it to end. I feel so lost! Lol.

    • iloveheartlandx 20/12/2018 / 1:09 pm

Yay! I hope we both enjoy A Curse So Dark and Lonely. I’ve heard that from a lot of people, I hope I enjoy it too, I’m just not ready for the inevitable book hangover yet.

  27. ChrissiReads 20/12/2018 / 5:55 am

Hope that you love these books!

  28. Sarah Ellis 20/12/2018 / 12:32 pm

  29. Kelly W 20/12/2018 / 9:52 pm

Children of Virtue and Vengeance is coming out pretty soon, I should probably get to the first book before then… anyway. Hope everything on your TBR goes well for you!

    • iloveheartlandx 21/12/2018 / 11:55 am

You’ve got a few months before it comes out! Thank you πŸ™‚

  30. To Kill a Kingdom is really good! I was a huge fan of The Little Mermaid as kid (still am) so I’m kinda a sucker for all things mermaid related (even murderous mermaids) Kingdom of Ash is also another must read! Personally not my fav in the series but a much needed conclusion nevertheless! Great list and happy reading πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 21/12/2018 / 11:50 am

That’s good to hear. Honestly murderous mermaids makes the story sound even better to me. I will definitely be finishing Kingdom of Ash, I need to know how everything ends. Thank you πŸ™‚

    • iloveheartlandx 21/12/2018 / 11:49 am

I know right? What we did to deserve something that beautiful, I’ll never know. I hope so too.

  31. Kelly Brigid 21/12/2018 / 5:30 pm

Wonderful list! I hope you are able to get to To Kill a Kingdom soon! I loved that one! And even though it took me ages to get through Kingdom of Ash, I really enjoyed it. And I’m DYING to read Descendant of the Crane! It’s so high on my tbr! Haha.

    Happy reading, love! ❀

    • iloveheartlandx 22/12/2018 / 12:10 pm

Thank you! That’s great to hear. Yes, I’m sure I will too, it’s just so long that it’s going to take me a while. Hope we both enjoy it πŸ™‚

  32. Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight 22/12/2018 / 1:45 am

Hamilton! I hope you love all the books AND the show of course- it’s incredible and I think you will! Descendant of The Crane is one I am SO curious about, so I can’t wait to see what people think. And I am reading Enchantee now, so fingers crossed that we both love it!

    • iloveheartlandx 22/12/2018 / 12:08 pm

Oh I have no doubt-I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for like the past two years so I know I love the music, it’s just a case of seeing it in person now! Yes, fingers crossed xxx

  33. natflixandbooks 22/12/2018 / 4:52 pm

Don’t you hate it in school gets in the way of reading? Lol. The journalism project sounds like it might be a rough one. I do love the cover for Descendant of the Crane. So pretty. Great list!

    • iloveheartlandx 22/12/2018 / 8:21 pm

Yes, I really do! Hopefully it will be enjoyable but no doubt it will be stressful too. It is gorgeous. Thank you πŸ™‚

  34. Annemieke 27/12/2018 / 7:13 am

I hope you’ll end up loving the next two books of the grisha trilogy. I mean book 2 especially. πŸ˜‰
