Hi everyone! First Top Ten Tuesday of 2018, all, and it’s #140 which is incredibly pleasing to me, starting the year on an even number! I hope you all enjoyed your New Year celebrations, I didn’t do all that much, went to see The Greatest Showman in the cinema with my parents (it’s excellent btw), we watched the fireworks and then rang in the New Year with drinks at our neighbours’ house. Also Friends is now on UK Netflix so that’s my January sorted!
Anyway, since it is the first Tuesday of 2018, that can only mean one thing, another Top Ten Tuesday for all of you, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish, the second to last one before it moves over to That Artsy Reader Girl in two weeks time. This week, we are meant to be talking about New To Us Authors We Read in 2017, but as I did that topic a few weeks ago, today I’m going to be talking about the Top Ten Books on My Winter TBR (the topic I swapped it for initially). So here we go, the books I plan to read this Winter (or say I’m going to read and then leave languishing). I only read 4 off my Autumn list, so I’m hoping to do much better this time around:
- Shadow and Bone-Leigh Bardugo
My first read of 2018 and my #RockMyTBR read for January. I really enjoyed Six of Crows when I read it last summer, so I’m hoping that I will love this one just as much.
2. The Fandom-Anna Day
One of my 2018 ARCs, I was really excited for this one but then my friend read it and wasn’t a fan (pardon the pun!), so I’m not sure about it now, but I don’t want to just leave it since it was one of limited copies at YALC and you don’t want to let that go to waste. Hopefully I enjoy this more than Hannah did!
3. The Exact Opposite of Okay-Laura Steven
Another of my 2018 ARCs, I’ve been hearing really good early praise for this one and it sounds like just my kind of thing, a feminist contemporary, so I’m really excited to get to this one closer to the release date in March.
4. Wintersong-S.Jae Jones
One of my resolutions for this year (which you will get to see in full in two weeks time when the topic comes up for TTT), is to read the books that my Secret Sisters, through the #otspsecretsister project have sent me. This was one I received in the last round, and it will make a perfect wintery read!
5. Orphan, Monster, Spy-Matt Killeen
I got this one from Usborne YA, and it sounds really great, a Jewish girl infiltrating a Nazi school as a spy, so I look forward to reading it closer to the release date in March.
6. Everless-Sara Holland
I’m actually reading this one at the moment, and it’s been pretty good so far, I’m really interested to see where it ends up going, the idea of using time as currency is such a cool concept! This one has been really hyped, so hopefully I enjoy it.
7. Moxie-Jennifer Mathieu
This was a 2017 release I was really looking forward to, but didn’t get around to, but it’s one of the books on my #RockMyTBR Challenge list this year, so I’m hoping to enjoy it this Winter.
8. By A Charm and A Curse-Jaime Questell
Another one of my Netgalley reads, this one sounds like a really intriguing take on the whole circus story thing that’s been going around YA fantasy for the last few years and I look forward to reading this one in February.
9. The Hazel Wood-Melissa Albert
My friend picked up an ARC of this one at YALC and absolutely loved it, so I’m really excited that I got approved for this on Netgalley, it sounds like a great twist on the whole fairytale thing, so I hope I enjoy it as much as my friend did!
10. The Toymakers-Robert Dinsdale
I wasn’t really expecting to get approved for this one, but I just did the other day and it sounds so cool, a toy shop in the middle of World War One London where the toys come alive? Yup definitely a Jo book.
So there we go, the books I’m planning to read this Winter! I hope I’ll get to all of them, especially since most of them are ARCs. And it kind of fits into the original idea of this week’s theme anyway, because all bar one of these authors are in fact new to me! What books are you planning to read this Winter? Any of these? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s TTT will be the last hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, which is going to be incredibly bittersweet, but we can all look forward to a new era of TTT with Jana at The Artsy Reader Girl. The final TBTB topic is Top Ten Books We Meant To Read In 2017 but didn’t get to (but totally plan to read in 2018), otherwise known as the list of shame!
In the meantime, I hope you guys all enjoy your first week of 2018! I plan to have my review of Chainbreaker up either this evening or tomorrow (as it releases today) and will also have my first discussion post of 2018 up very soon, so stay tuned for those!
Moxie is one I REALLY wanted to read, and I just didn’t get to last year. I hope we both really love it!
Me too!
Moxie and The Hazel Wood are two that I wanted to read in 2017 too but never did. Maybe this year!
Happy 2018!

I hope you get the chance to read both this year! Happy 2018 🙂
Ooooh Wintersong is an excellent winter read. I’m looking forward to the sequel this year – and I’m intrigued by The Hazel Wood too!
That’s great to hear! Yes The Hazel Wood does sound interesting doesn’t it?
I keep hearing good things about The Hazel Wood. I will have to add it to my teetering pile of TBR books.
Hope we both enjoy it!
Great list. I’m really excited to read Everless too.
Thanks! Hope we both enjoy it 🙂
I love Bardugo! Glad you liked her works as well. I’m actually currently reading The Hazel Wood right now 😀
I’ve only read the one, but I’m hoping I will enjoy this one just as much (since a lot of her works are on my TBR this year!). Oh cool, are you enjoying it?
Nice list! There are so many authors on your list that I really want to read this year. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks! No problem 🙂
How are you enjoying Everless? It’s on my TBR and I hope to get to it soon. 😀
It’s been pretty good so far 🙂
I LOVED Shadow and Bone so much! I adore Leigh Bardugo so I hope you enjoy 🙂 I’m also really hoping to read Wintersong and Everless. They both sound fantastic!
That’s great to hear, I hope so too. Yes they do 🙂
I need to finish Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy myself. I love Six of Crows, but should really go back and read the first series. Best of luck with all these reads!
Thanks! I’m kind of jumping around the Grishaverse, started with Six of Crows, now Shadow and Bone, will be reading Crooked Kingdom later in the year, it’s all kind of a jumble really!
I really loved Shadow and Bone. Curious to see what you’ll think of it! I haven’t read Six of Crows yet, because I really want to finish the Grisha books first but I’m so excited to reading SoC as well.
And as I’ve said in my reply to your reply on my article just now; I’m really curious to see what you’ll think of Wintersong.
It’s one of my favorite 2017 reads and definitely an all-time favorite! There are very mixed reviews about this book. It’s a kind of book that’s either epicness or fails, without there being a middle ground haha.
And Everless!! I’m really excited about that one as well! The Time as currency idea sounds really awesome!
Since the book has been really hyped, it’ll probably be a while before I start reading it, lol.
That’s great to hear! Yeah I just happened to read Six of Crows first, but have started the year with Shadow and Bone and will be reading Crooked Kingdom later in the year, I’m kinda jumping around the Grishaverse!
Oh right, well here’s hoping that it will be the former for me and not the latter. Yes Everless does sound great (and has been pretty good so far), but maybe best to avoid the hype for now!
Orphan Monster Spy seems really intriguing and I’m looking forward to its release.
Me too!
Great list. I haven’t read any of these books, but a number of them sound quite good. Enjoy!
Thanks! Well I hope so 🙂
I adore Jennifer Mathieu. Her writing style is fabulous.
That’s great to hear 🙂
Orphan, Monster, Spy is one I hope to get, and I have to get to Moxie!!! Both sound amazing. Happy reading!
I hope you enjoy both! Thank you 🙂
Shadow and Bone was excellent. I have a copy of Everless that I really want to get around to reading asap. I would love to get my hands on Moxie and The Hazel Wood (when it releases) because I’ve heard so many good things about them.
That’s great to hear! I hope you enjoy Everless, Moxie and The Hazel Wood then 🙂
I finished Everless yesterday and I really loved it!
My TTT
That’s great to hear 🙂
Oh man, I haven’t read a lot of these. I really do love Leigh Bardugo though so I’m glad to see her on your TTT! 😀
I haven’t read any, so we’re together on that! Yes, I really enjoyed Six of Crows last year, so I’m bingeing her books this year.
TTT#140?.. Wooow. Hope I reach that too. 🙂 Great list of new authors you’ve got. happy New Year, 🙂
Haha yup, been doing it for almost 3 years, that’s what you get to! Thank you 🙂
I really need to read Moxie! I love Leigh Bardugo (still need to read Crooked Kingdom, I’ve been saving it!).
Me too! I’ll be reading Crooked Kingdom later in the year, hope we both enjoy it 🙂
I’m looking forward to reading The Hazel Wood this year as well.
I hope we both enjoy it 🙂
I’ve been meaning to read a few of the books on your list too! Leigh Bardugo’s books and Wintersong being some of them! 😛 Looks like you had a wonderful year.
I hope you enjoy them if you read them. Thank you 🙂
Hope you enjoy Shadow and Bone! And The Hazel Wood does look really good!
Thanks! Yes it does 🙂
Moxie is on my TBR! I’ve really been looking forward to that one. Same for Everless. I’m hoping to pick them up soooon but who knows.. :’)
I hope you enjoy both of them when you get to them 🙂
Ooh this looks like such a great list for your TBR!! And I’m hoping Everless is amazing because I just got approved for it too!! I heard mixed things about The Hazel Wood but it sounds sooo good that I don’t care.😂I need to try it anyway. And Wintersong is definitely on my to-read list for 2018….sometime.😂 I’m so behind on my TBR haha.
Thanks! Everless has been pretty good so far, though I’m only about 100 pages in. Yes The Hazel Wood does sound amazing, and my friend loved it, so since we have very similar tastes I have high hopes. Haha same here! My books are judging me, it’s not fair, I will get to them at some point!
I hope you love Shadow and Bone! I read Six of Crows first too, and it was great to go back to the Grisha universe and see how much her writing has grown from the original trilogy. I hope you get to read all of these!
Thanks, I hope so too, and I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who red Six of Crows first. I hope so, I usually do get around to all of my TBR books eventually, just not necessarily in the months I plan to!
I’m hoping to read Everless soon as well! The Grisha trilogy is one of my favorites, hope you’ll enjoy it!
Hope you enjoy it! Oh thanks 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you think of Shadow and Bone since it’s on my TBR for this year too!
Oh cool! Should have the review up in a couple of weeks 🙂
I discovered Wintersong too, but I’d already done my TTT by the time I’d finished it. Still have very mixed feelings about it, but will definitely be giving Shadowsong a go. Great list!
Thanks!
I’m hoping to get to Wintersong too this winter, especially with Shadowsong coming. Good luck with reading all of these. 🙂
Thanks! I hope we both enjoy Wintersong 🙂
I’ve not read The Grisha trilogy by Bardugo and I’m torn about whether I should do or not. I hope you enjoy the series.
Thanks! I’ve not been so keen on the first book but maybe the second is better 🙂
Adding a book by Leigh Bardugo to my list is something I *must* do. Also, I’ve seen “Moxie” on so many lists, but haven’t given it much of a second look! I’ll have to remedy this. 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
I loved Six of Crows, I’ve not enjoyed Shadow and Bone quite as much. Ah you should, Moxie sounds amazing, it’s feminist girls trying to make change! No problem 🙂
I also very much disliked The Fandom, to the extent I didn’t finish it and gave my YALC arc away. But lots and lots of people seem to love it, so hopefully you are one of them!
Oh that’s a shame. I hope so, although it’s not getting off to a great start.
