Hi all! I hope everyone had a great Christmas yesterday, I certainly did, ate way too much turkey and then spent the rest of the day comatose on the couch watching all the TV Christmas Specials (though darn you BBC One and Channel 4 for making me choose between Call The Midwife and GBBO, Call The Midwife won, so I’m currently catching up on GBBO). The next few days will be spent visiting my parents’ friends as is normal post-Christmas, so I’m hoping I manage to shake this cold soon!
Anyway, as it’s Tuesday, and the last Tuesday of 2017 in fact, I have another Top Ten Tuesday for you all, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at The Broke and The Bookish. This week, as we look forward into the new year (how can next week be a new year? How?), we’re going to be talking about the Top Ten Books We’re Looking Forward To In 2018, be it backlist books we’re excited to read, new series releases, debuts etc. I’m going to focus purely on 2018 releases and it will be a mix of series releases, debuts and new standalone releases. There is a very good chance I might go over ten!:
- Throne of Glass #7 (no title as of yet)-Sarah J Maas-Releases 4th September (we hope!)
We’ve been waiting almost two years (or we will have by the time September rolls around) for the finale of Throne of Glass so naturally as I was expecting it to be released this year, it is my most anticipated release of 2018. I need to know if Aelin is okay already!
2. The Burning Maze (Trials of Apollo #3)-Rick Riordan-Releases 1st May
I can’t wait to see what happens in Apollo’s next adventure, from teasers in The Ship of The Dead, it sounds like Percy and Annabeth might be involved, Grover is going to be back, so is Leo, so it should be a super fun book!
3. Hero At The Fall (Rebel of The Sands #3)-Alwyn Hamilton-Releases 1st February
I cannot wait for the finale of this trilogy, though every early review of it has said that it’s completely heartbreaking, so despite my excitement for it, I may be putting it off for a while! A girl can only take so much book inflicted pain in one year.
4. Thunderhead (Arc of A Scythe #2)-Neal Shusterman-Releases 9th January
I read the first book towards the end of this year and really enjoyed it, so I can’t wait to get to the sequel, though it might not be as soon as its release in two weeks time!
5. Daughter of The Siren Queen (Daughter of The Pirate King #2)-Tricia Levenseller-Releases 27th February
The first book of this duology was definitely my most fun read of this year and I can’t wait to dive back on ship with Alosa and have more fun adventures!
6. Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game #1)-Amanda Foody-Releases 10th April
I think this one is an anticipated release for a lot of people because I’ve seen it floating around a ton over the last few months! It just sounds so good though, con men, casinos, cabarets, the mafia? What part of this doesn’t sound like something I’d love? Answer: None of it, it all sounds amazing.
7. Legendary (Caraval #2)-Stephanie Garber-Releases 29th May
AHHH I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS ONE BUT WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MAY, WHY? One of my complaints from the last book was that we didn’t get to see enough of Tella and this book is her book which makes me incredibly excited.
8. Bygone Badass Broads: 52 Forgotten Women Who Changed The World-Mackenzi Lee-Releases 6th March
I don’t usually include non fiction in these sorts of lists, but this one sounds so entirely up my alley that I absolutely had to. As most of you who have been reading this blog for a while will know, I am a History student (as well as being a Journalism student), and a feminist, so a book entirely about women pioneers throughout History? Yup, sign Jo up!
9. A Thousand Perfect Notes-CG Drews-Releases 7th June
AHHH CAIT’s BOOK. Usually contemporaries are not really my thing but this is Cait from Paper Fury’s book so you can basically be guaranteed that it will be heartbreaking perfection (and contain a lot of food!). Plus it’s so rare to find a book where music is such a big part of it, so I will be interested to see that aspect.
10. The Exact Opposite of Okay-Laura Steven-Releases 8th March
I got this one from YALC and I’m so incredibly excited to read it. Yes to all the feminist books okay? I’ve heard awesome feedback on it so far, so I’m super excited to read this come end of February/March time.
11. Hamilton and Peggy: A Revolutionary Friendship-LM Elliott-Releases 13th February
Let’s face it, I am Hamiltrash, so this book had me at Hamilton before even learning that it was about the more overlooked Schuyler sister, Peggy as well!
12. Toil and Trouble: 16 Tales of Women and Witchcraft-Anthology edited by Tess Sharpe-Releases 28th August
Witches? Anthology of short stories about witches? Need I say more about why I’m excited about this one? I added it as soon as I found out about it on Goodreads and I’m so excited for it to come out next year.
13. Ink, Iron and Glass-Gwendolyn Clare-Releases 20th February
This one sounds really interesting, and different, it’s all about writing (well something called scriptology), which sounds like a cool concept and the cover is all kinds of amazing so I’m super excited to read it.
14. Orphan, Monster, Spy-Matt Killeen-Releases 8th March
I got sent this one for review by Usborne YA, and I’m really excited about it because it sounds so good, a Jewish girl infiltrating a Nazi boarding school as a spy? Yes please! Now to figure out how I will be organised enough to read this and TEOOO for the same date……
15. Children of Blood and Bone-Tomi Adeyemi-Releases 6th March
March certainly seems to be a busy month for YA this year! This is probably another of the most hyped 2018 books I’ve seen, but it does sound really good, so I can understand why. I may leave this one for a while to let the hype die down though!
16. Circle of Shadows-Evelyn Skye-Releases sometime in 2018
No official release date for this yet, so it could change, but anyway, this new duology from Evelyn Skye sounds awesome, but let’s face it, I will read basically anything that advertises itself as including an assassin.
17. For A Muse of Fire-Heidi Heilig-Releases 25th September
I don’t know much about this one yet, it doesn’t even have a description on Goodreads, but Heidi Heilig described it as Moulin Rouge meets Apocalypse Now + quest for a lithium spring on Twitter and if anyone know anything about me, it’s that the words Moulin Rouge are magic for getting me to want to read book. It’s about a bipolar shadow player who can bind the souls of the dead and if that doesn’t sound awesome, I don’t know what does.
18. City of Ghosts-Victoria Schwab-Releases 31st December
I mean yes, I have to wait until the end of next year for this one, but I am still super excited for it. It’s Schwab, so you are pretty much guaranteed weird, wonderful perfection, not to mention that it’s set in Edinburgh, one of my favourite cities in the world, so yeah, it’s safe to say I’m excited for this one!
19. By A Charm and A Curse-Jaime Questell-Releases 6th February
This is one of my Netgalley reads. I loved Caraval, so I’m trying to find more circus style reads and this one sounds really interesting, a travelling circus with a dangerous curse set on it? Yes please! I can’t wait to read this one.
20. The Hazel Wood-Mimi Albert-Releases 8th February
I honestly hadn’t even registered this one, but my friend Hannah got it from YALC and said it was absolutely amazing and we have a really similar taste in books, I trust her recs more than anyone because she knows exactly what I like, so I requested it from Netgalley, got accepted and am super excited to read it next year!
So there we go, the bumper size edition of books I’m excited for in 2018! And that’s just the 2018 releases. It’s going to be an incredible year for books, I can tell already. What books are you most excited for in 2018, new releases or otherwise? Do we share any? Let me know in the comments!
Next week’s TTT will be the first of 2018, and the second to last hosted by TBTB before it moves to The Artsy Reader Girl on January 16th. Next week’s topic is Top Ten New To Me Authors I Read In 2017, but I did that one a while back in place of the Winter TBR topic, so yup, you guessed it, I’ll be talking about the Top Ten Books on My Winter TBR instead!
In the meantime, I hope you guys enjoy all of your family’s holiday festivities, and I will be back over the next few days, wrapping up 2017 for Book Lovers Blog before we move into 2018 next week!
