Quarterly Rewind (September-December 17 edition)

Hi all! It’s nearly the end of the year already, we only have a week and a half of 2017 left, can you believe it? It’s been a trashfire year for the world, but it’s actually been pretty good for me personally, so in some ways I will be sad to to see the back of 2017, but I’m really excited to see what 2018 brings! For any new readers who haven’t been around when I’ve done one of these before, basically I do one of these posts every three months, at the start of each new season in order to wrap up the season that has just been and look forward to the next one. Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, so it’s time for my wrap up of Autumn and to look forward to Winter. This post will cover from 22nd September-20th December:

christmas dinner

My friends Zoe and Hannah came up to visit me for a few days (they left yesterday) and this picture is us enjoying our own little Christmas dinner!

Favourite Quote from a book you read this Autumn:

Alex is male right now. I have just been kissed by a dude. How do I feel about that?

I have just been kissed by Alex Fierro. I am absolutely great with that’

-Magnus Chase and The Ship of The Dead, Rick Riordan

This one had to be the winner, I basically squealed when I read it, because I had been so worried Rick Riordan would go down the path of having Magnus be interested in Alex only when she was identifying as a girl, so to have it shown in canon that Magnus was attracted to Alex when he was identifying as male as well was very gratifying and if it was that gratifying to me, a straight, cis girl, I can only imagine how amazing it would be for pansexual and gender fluid people to see that kind of representation in a book.

This Autumn in One Word:

Most Popular Review This Autumn:

I’ve read 8 books in the period that this rewind covers and have reviewed 7 of them, of those 7, the most popular review was my review of Neal Shusterman’s Scythe, which is good, since it made my favourites of 2017 list! Here is the review so you guys can check it out:

Top Two Books This Autumn:

This is relatively straightforward as there are a couple of books that stand out for me from the last few months:

  1. Chainbreaker-Tara Sim-This was my last read for my Goodreads Challenge this year and it was truly incredible, a total masterpiece of feels and I can’t wait for it to come out in January so the rest of you can be as destroyed by it as I was!
  2. Scythe-Neal Shusterman-Shusterman’s new Utopian series is certainly just as creative as Unwind! There were certain things I would have liked to have seen done better but overall it was really enjoyable.

Two Things I’m Looking Forward To This Winter:

  1. Christmas!-Obviously, it’s in four days and I’m super excited. It’s definitely my absolute favourite time of year.
  2. Work Experience-I’m doing a work experience module in spring semester at Uni, and I’m really excited for it, I’ll finally get a chance to see what it’s like working at an actual newspaper!

Three New Obsessions This Autumn:

This is always hard, as most of my obsessions are long standing ones, I don’t necessarily develop new ones often:

  1. Brooklyn 99-I caught up with this series in the space of about two weeks, I was sceptical at first but have ended up really enjoying it and I can’t wait to see where the rest of Season 5 goes.
  2. Wonder Woman-I watched the movie with my friend a few months ago and call me completely obsessed by Diana Prince. I can’t wait to read Leigh Bardugo’s novel all about her.
  3. My new WIP-I’m really excited about my current WIP, I started it during NaNoWriMo and I’m going to be working on it through next year. It’s set in Underground tunnels throughout Europe and features an f/f pairing, my first attempt at writing an f/f romance for one of my original stories (I’ve done it in fanfic before).

Five Most Popular Blog Posts This Autumn:

As usual, all my five most popular blog posts of this Autumn were all Top Ten Tuesday posts:

  1. Top Ten Tuesday #133-This was a TTT from about a month ago, back in mid-November, where I talked about the books I’d like my future nieces and nephews to read, were I to have any. This was a fun one to do, so I’m glad it got so much love!

2. Top Ten Tuesday #127-This was the TTT where I talked about book boyfriends, so I’m not surprised it was so popular, as we fangirls love our shipping!

3. Top Ten Tuesday #136-This was my TTT from the beginning of December, where I talked about all the bookish settings that I’d love to visit, if I got the chance to!

4. Top Ten Tuesday #129-Clearly other bookworms are just as big foodies as I am as this post all about bookish food that I’d like to try was very popular.

5. Top Ten Tuesday #132-This TTT is from way back at the beginning of November, where I talked about Characters That Would Make Great Leaders of A Book Club, and I think the consensus was that my book clubs would be very fun or very intense!

Four Posts I’ve enjoyed on other blogs this Autumn:

I feel like I’ve kind of lapsed on bookmarking the posts I’ve liked this Autumn, but I will try to see if I’ve got four to share with you:

  1. Cait @ Paper Fury did this hilarious post about why bookworms panic at the end of the year and it all hit far too true for me!

2. Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turner did a post about how she plans to make Winter suck less for her. Whilst I couldn’t necessarily relate as I love the Winter, I found her thoughts on it really interesting.

3. Laura @ The Book Corps did this great post about the recent changes made by Goodreads and Netgalley which affect international bloggers.

4. Grace @ Almost Amazing Grace did this post about parents sharing photos of their children on social media before they’re old enough to agree to it and I thought it was a really interesting read.

Five Things That Happened This Autumn:

  1. I went to Hairspray when the UK tour came up to Glasgow, with my two friends from Uni, Nicola and Rebecca, as a belated 21st birthday celebration. It was so much fun and an amazing show.
  2. My friends from home, Hannah and Zoe, came up to visit me for a few days for our annual Scottish Christmas celebrations.
  3. I went to the Christmas Market in Edinburgh with Nicola and Rebecca.
  4. I started evening Spanish classes at my University, which I hope to continue next semester.
  5. I moved house-well my parents did anyway! I was at University when they moved, but when I go home for the summer, I will be going back to my new house.

Six Songs I Listened To Way Too Often This Autumn:

  1. Say No To This-Hamilton-For some reason this song kind of passed me by before I had the Hamilton soundtrack on my IPod, but now that I’ve got it, I love it.
  2. The Room Where It Happens-Hamilton-It’s just so gosh darn catchy!
  3. Don’t Blame Me-Taylor Swift-This seems to be the song on reputation that comes up on my IPod most often.
  4. Does Your Mother Know-Mamma Mia-I love the Mamma Mia soundtrack and this song is particularly catchy.
  5. Defying Gravity-Wicked-Two of the members of my trampolining club were doing a routine to this for one of our competitions, so safe to say, it was on at training a lot!
  6. Getaway Car-Taylor Swift-One of my favourites off reputation.

Best of 2017

This isn’t part of the original rewind and I haven’t done it in the past, but I thought it would be a fun addition to this final rewind of the year to look back over my favourite moments of 2017 and all the awesome things I’ve got to do this year:

  1. Going to Greece with my friends-This is without a doubt my favourite thing I’ve done this year, it was so much fun to go on a trip abroad with my friends, to a place I’ve been wanting to go to for so long and an absolutely amazing way to celebrate my 21st birthday.
  2. YALC 2017-Without a doubt the best year of YALC so far. Hannah and I have our routine down pat now, and I’m so excited for next year’s event already!
  3. Hairspray-Getting to see Hairspray on stage along with my best friends from Uni was definitely a highlight of the year.
  4. Getting To See Jack Whitehall live-It was so much fun to get to go and see Jack Whitehall’s live show with Rebecca and Nicola.
  5. Mamma Mia-It was so amazing to get to see this on stage for my 21st birthday and even more amazing to get to see it with one of my closest friends, Ellie.
  6. Continuing my Christmas traditions with my friends-It was so lovely to have Hannah and Zoe up here again for Christmas, we’ve done it every year since I started Uni and it’s something I always look forward to.

So that’s it. My last Quarterly Rewind of 2017! What do you guys think? What have you enjoyed most on my blog this Autumn? What have you been up to? Anyone have any exciting plans for Christmas? Let me know in the comments!
