As promised last week, I am back with a new Wishlist Wednesday post for you all this week. I am going to try and keep doing these weekly whilst I’m back over the summer break, after all, I have a lot of material to choose from with my ever expanding TBR! For this week’s Wishlist Wednesday, I thought I’d focus on another anticipated upcoming release from one of my favourite authors! This book is Neal Shusterman’s upcoming new release, Scythe, which release in November (why oh why does it have to be so far away!). I’ve actually only read his Unwind Dystology so far, but it’s one of my favourite series and I’m hoping that I’ll also get to read Challenger Deep before this releases! Anyway, let’s talk about the book!
In a world where disease has been eliminated, the only way to die is to be randomly killed (“gleaned”) by professional reapers (“scythes”). Citra and Rowan are teenagers who have been selected to be scythe’s apprentices, and—despite wanting nothing to do with the vocation—they must learn the art of killing and come to understand the necessity of what they do.
Only one of them will be chosen as a scythe’s apprentice. And when it becomes clear that the winning apprentice’s first task will be to glean the loser, Citra and Rowan are pitted against one another in a fight for their lives.
This book looks at a utopia rather than a dystopia and I’m quite excited for that, because I honestly don’t think I’ve ever read a Utopia before. The premise sounds incredible, I love the idea of gleaning and I reckon it could make for an exciting world. I just hope that Citra and Rowan do not fall for each other because that is so incredibly overdone! I love the idea of one of them having to kill the other and I hope he sticks to that and doesn’t back out (though I say that now and when I read it, I’ll probably fall in love with both of them and not want either of them to die!). It sounds like it’s going to be a really great book and I can’t wait to read it.
I will hopefully have another Wishlist Wednesday post for you next week, but in the meantime, I will have a new Thursday Quotables post for you tomorrow, so stay tuned for that!
