Top Ten Tuesday #46

Hey everyone, I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday, courtesy of the lovely ladies over at the Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For….(insert your own topic here), so I decided to choose Top Ten Books If You Are In The Mood For Fantasy, since YA fantasy is my go-to genre, so I figure that I’ll be able to make the best recommendations in that genre. So here we go, my top ten books to read if you’re in the mood for some fantasy:

  1. The Harry Potter Series-JK Rowling-I could not make a list with fantasy books to read without including Harry Potter. Whether you’ve already read the series or not, Harry Potter is the perfect series to read when you’re in the mood for some fantasy and the best part about it, is that it really stands up to multiple rereads!
  2. Percy Jackson and The Olympians Series-Rick Riordan-This is one of my absolute favourite fantasy series ever, it’s so much fun and it’s based on Greek mythology and if you haven’t read it yet, then you definitely should.
  3. The Heroes of Olympus series-Rick Riordan-Because after you’ve finished the PJO series, you’ll definitely want to read the series that follows on from it.
  4. The Skulduggery Pleasant series-Derek Landy-There’s magic and a walking, talking skeleton detective who is witty and sarcastic and just all around awesome. What more reason do you need to read this series?
  5. The Throne of Glass series-Sarah J Maas-A series with an awesome main female character (who’s an assassin) and a richly imagined fantasy world, if you like fantasy then it’s definitely a series that’s worth a read.
  6. The Artemis Fowl series-Eoin Colfer-This is a such cool series, it has a young criminal mastermind as its protagonist and lots of cool magical creatures, in fact there’s a whole underground magical society which is really cool.
  7. The Pegasus Series-Kate O’Hearn-This story is Pegasus in a modern day setting and if you like mythology (though this series is based on Roman rather than Greek) then this series is definitely worth a try.
  8. Ink and Bone-Rachel Caine-I only read this book this year, but it’s a great book with diverse characters and lots of cool fantasy stuff.
  9. Rebel of The Sands-Alwyn Hamilton-This was my most recent read, I only actually finished it two days ago, but it was so good! The mix of Arab/Wild West sounds strange at first but it really works and the main character is just awesome.
  10. The Raven Cycle-Maggie Stiefvater-The Raven Cycle is a bit different to your usual fantasy as it has a contemporary setting and it’s probably a little more paranormal than fantasy, but there are definitely fantasy elements in there. It’s such a great series, with a really strong friendship between the main characters at the core of the books, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Which ones of these have you read, if any? Did you enjoy them? Any other fantasy lovers out there with recommendations for me? What topic did you choose to fill in the blank this week? I will be back next week with another Top Ten Tuesday, the topic is either Top Ten Characters Everyone Else Loves But I Just Don’t Get or Top Ten Characters I Love But Others Seem To Dislike. I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do with this one, but I have a week to think about it, so hopefully I will have come up with ideas by next week. In the meantime, I should hopefully have a new review, my review of Rebel of The Sands by Alwyn Hamilton up soon.

Harry Potter for sure! My all time favorite. I am going to be reading Throne of Glass series and The Raven Cycle this year, so I’m excited to see them on your list. I tried to listen to Artemis Fowl a few years ago, and I couldn’t get into it. I should really give Percy Jackson a try. Great list!

Mine too! Oh great, I hope you enjoy both of them. I liked Artemis Fowl but hey, not all books are for everyone. You should, Percy Jackson is awesome. Thank you!

Great list and topic choice! I’m the middle of both the Harry Potter and Raven cycle series, but so far I’m loving them and both are great fantasy reads! I’m also hoping to read Throne of Glass soon as so many people love it and I’m really interested to see for myself!
    My TTT

Thanks! Glad that you’re enjoying both of those. Ah cool, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Great list, Ink and Bone is definitely on my TBR list!!!

  4. lindseyhabets 01/03/2016 / 7:34 pm

I love Harry Potter and Percy Jackson! The Throne of Glass series is my current favourite series, I’m addicted 🙂 I’ve also heard so many good things about the Raven Boys, but I’ve still to read it. I also added Ink and Bone to my TBR, it seems like fun 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 01/03/2016 / 7:37 pm

Me too! I think I share your addiction there, I can’t wait for the newest book in the series to be released. It’s great, you definitely should.Oh yeah Ink and Bone is a lot of fun, hope you enjoy it.

Harry Potter is the ultimate fantasy series! And it’s so nice seeing someone recommending Artemis Fowl!

    • iloveheartlandx 01/03/2016 / 7:49 pm

I totally agree! Yeah, I barely ever see it on other blogs, not sure why, it’s a really enjoyable series.

    • iloveheartlandx 01/03/2016 / 7:58 pm

Oh definitely! Yeah I haven’t counted the number of times Harry Potter is featured in my TTT’s but I think it’s safe to say it’s featured in a large majority of them!

      • bookmuffin 01/03/2016 / 7:59 pm

        Yes, me too haha!!

  6. AngelErin 01/03/2016 / 8:24 pm

Omg so many good ones!! And Thron of Glass is one of my all time faves!

  7. Greg Hill 01/03/2016 / 8:28 pm

Fantasy recs are always good! The Percy Jackson and Throne of Glass books are two I definitely want to try at some point.

    • iloveheartlandx 01/03/2016 / 8:48 pm

Yup, quite fond of them myself! You definitely should, they’re both great series.

Harry potter and PJO is basically my childhood, and Throne of Glass is one of my more recent favourites! Just a suggestion, maybe have more spacing between the title/author of the book, and what you want to say about it underneath? It would probably make it look a bit nicer and easier to read 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 01/03/2016 / 10:57 pm

Harry Potter was my childhood, I read all of the PJO books within quick succession when I was about 14. Thanks for the advice, I’m always looking for ways to make my posts better and I’ll take it on board for next time.

I think I’ve read about half of your list. I’ve got an audiobook version of Skulduggery Pleasant (I think) that I’ll have to dig out. I had no idea what it was about. Have you read the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta? I loved those books. 🙂 Here’s my list: https://twitter.com/Story_Sanctuary/status/704819515423641600

I’m SO excited for The Raven Cycle and Ink and Bone! How well do the rest of the Artemis Fowl books stand up, would you say? (I think there’s 7, or like 7.5 or something…)

    • iloveheartlandx 02/03/2016 / 10:36 am

I’m so excited for the last book in the Raven Cycle series! I hope you enjoy both the Raven Cycle and Ink and Bone. There’s 8 of them, I would say the first four are better than the last four, but they’re all pretty good.

  11. Jen 02/03/2016 / 4:33 am

I can’t wait to read The Raven Cycle right before the release of the final book in April! I keep hearing so many wonderful things about it! Oh, I just finished Riders by Veronica Rossi a little while back and it was a lot of fun. 🙂

    • iloveheartlandx 02/03/2016 / 10:35 am

It’s so great I hope you enjoy it! At least this way you won’t have had to suffer the painfully long wait between the release of book 3 and book 4! Riders is on my TBR, hopefully when I’ve got the number of unread books that I currently own down a bit, then I’ll get to it.

  12. Lisa 02/03/2016 / 4:54 am

Nice list! The only ones I’ve read here are the Harry Potter books, but I’d love to check out a few more.

    • iloveheartlandx 02/03/2016 / 10:31 am

Thanks! You definitely should, all of these are great books.

Harry Potter is my fave – along with The Chronicles of Narnia 🙂 My TTT

    • iloveheartlandx 02/03/2016 / 9:01 pm

Yeah I think Harry Potter is my fave too! I liked The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but never really got into any of the other Narnia books.

  16. Cait @ Paper Fury 04/03/2016 / 6:45 am

AHHH I’VE READ 8 OF THESE. XD I feel really well read right now, hehe. And omg I looove Skulduggery and I wish more people read it because it. is. so. hilarious. I need to finish the series yet. My feels were struggling to take all the emotions. And The Raven Boys?!? ❤ My ULTIMATE favourite author and series of ever. *sniffles happily* I’m re-reading The Dream Thieves right now actually. NOT PREPARED FOR THE RAVEN KING. NOT AT ALL.

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    • iloveheartlandx 04/03/2016 / 11:25 am

I love it when that happens! Oh yeah me too, me and my best friend both love it and we talk about it all the time, it’s great! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Yup, my list wouldn’t be the same without it. I am equal parts excited/terrified for The Raven King.
